ORIE ZACCARDI
POCATELLO — Orie Zaccardi, 96, of Pocatello, Idaho,
away peacefully following an extended illness early Wednesday morning, Sept. 26th, 2012, while in the company of family members at his home. He was born in Pocatello on June 20, 1916, the son of Dominic Marie (Vinyon) Zaccardi.
Orie graduated from Pocatello High School in 1936. He attended the University of Idaho Southern Branch (now Idaho State University). He enlisted in the U.S. Army during World War II. With his poor eyesight, he could only volunteer. He was a well-known businessman in the area. His business career started owning a grocery store on Oak Street.
Orie was an avid outdoorsman. He especially enjoyed fishing. He was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Community.
Orie married Gloria Rose Rino in Pocatello on November 29, 1947, at St. Joseph’s Church. Together they had seven children: Deborah Zaccardi of Boise, Jilda (Walt) Czarniecki of Boise; Molly Zaccardi of Seattle, Washington; Dr. John (Patrice) Zaccardi of Bow, Washington; Maureen Zaccardi of Denver, Colorado; Toni (Vince) Rosales of Billings, Montana, and Gina (George) Katsilometes of Pocatello.
Orie is survived by his children as well as grandchildren, Nicola (Denny) Wilson of Boise; Annie (Chris) Colson of Ryegate, Montana; Amy (Joe) Stauffer of Boise; Joe (Aimee) Czarniecki of Boise; Tom Czarniecki of Boise; Dominic Zaccardi of Bow, Washington; Madeline Zaccardi of Bow, Washington; Paul Rosales of Billings, Montana; Vanessa Rosales Stearn (Blair) of Seattle, Washington; Marco Rosales of Billings, Montana, and Jim and Orie Katsilometes, both of Pocatello, and great-grandchildren Carmella Wilson of Boise; John and Katie Colson of Ryegate, Montana; Jack Stauffer of Boise and Chloe Czarniecki of Boise.
Orie is also survived by his sister, Cusie (Chris) Harame of Pocatello. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Carmie (Ellen) Zaccardi, Carmella Glenn, Marguerite (John) Davis and Raymond (Teresa) Zaccardi.
A Catholic Rosary Service with viewing will be held at 6 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 30, at Downard Funeral Home, 241 North Garfield Ave., in Pocatello, (208) 233-0686. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Holy Spirit Catholic Community, St. Anthony’s Chapel, Pocatello on Monday, Oct. 1st at 1 p.m.
