Another SMU QB Transfer??

I was just doing some searching and came across that SMU QB Kyle Padron was just granted his release. Yes, the same Kyle Padron who took over the starting job for Bo Levi Mitchell when Bo went down at SMU. The same exact situation happened to Kyle as what happened to Bo. Kyle tore it up as a true freshman and then gets hurt his soph yr and losses his job. Just sayin......You better believe that Kyle has reached out to Bo Levi about EWU. The kid slings it like Bo and would be a great fit in EWU's system! Would have an immediate impact! He would have 2 yrs of eligibility.

Thoughts?? I like Vernon Adams a lot, but could we really pass on Padron? I get he would have "earn" the starting job...

That's just too ironic. You kind of have to speculate, given Beau's remarks that he'll be adding another QB or two. If Padron comes here and wins a NC, we're gonna have to start calling SMU "Eagle Express"

Are you sure about the two years eligibility though? He played the last 7 games of 2009, all of 2010, and 3 games in 2011. Wouldn't he have to be given an extra year through appeal?

FWIW, he has better numbers than BLM did at SMU.

Padron: 446/709 (63%) 41TDs/21INTs, 5902 yds
BLM: 385/676 (57%) 36TDs/33INTs, 4590yds

He's also much bigger at 6-4, 233lbs.

Guess I found the answer to my own question.

Padron is now looking for a new program to play football for. If he transfers to an FBS program he will have to sit out a season and return in 2013 for his final year of eligibility. If he chooses to go to an FCS program he may begin playing immediately in the 2012 season.

Then again, he only played 3 games in 2011 due to injury, which is less than 1/3 season, so he could apply and would likely receive a medical redshirt.

The junior quarterback will seek a transfer following a season that was cut short due to a back injury.

SMU had planned on Padron using 2011 as a redshirt season so that he would have two years of eligibility remaining.

With the outstanding results we have had pre and post the Baldwin, why is it that Eastern has had such outstanding QB's?
From the GoEags.com page:
"While at Eastern, Baldwin has coached two of the greatest quarterbacks in NCAA FCS history – Erik Meyer (2002-2005) and Matt Nichols (2006-2009). At Central, he coached three of its all-time greats – NFL veteran Jon Kitna, current Eastern assistant coach Zak Hill and Mike Reilly."
And this does not include BLM's success'
So...regardless of the results of spring ball and fall practices, how can anyone doubt Baldwins decisions on the QB situation?
Eastern seems like the prime opportunity for any FBS QB who wants to play.

Padron is coming here for a visit in a few weeks... 8-)

I hope this is true...Padron is a stud...sounds like QB's at SMU can get some raw deals when they are injured.

Although I am really high on Adams, sounds like he would bring a dynamic Eastern has never seen at the QB position and apparently he had a great redshirt year...maybe adams could run a little wildcat for us while Padron slings it all over...Hard to turn down a great throwing QB with the receivers we have coming back next year.

I think its an easy sell when Padron sees Nick Edwards and Brandon Kaufman will be here along with Greg Herd. I'd imagine both Edwards and Kaufman will be on the preseason payton list or a lot of preseason all-american lists.

Definitely a great day to be an Eag, but isn't every day?

It's true... straight from the Mustang's mouth on twitter. :thumb:

WOW!! This would be huge! One of the only question marks I have going into this season was at the QB position player that would help us right away. (assuming we stay healthy). Not that I don't have confidence in our other QB's, but this would be a proven Bringing in this kid would go along way in a great season! :D

Kyle Padron would be a great addition to the QB tryouts. He ran into the same situation at SMU that Bo Levi did...get injured and your going to be replaced. As much as Bo respects and admires June Jones, I am thankful that he found a better coach and friend in Beau Baldwin; and a much better situation at EWU.
I hope Kyle enjoys his visit and decides to continue his career at EWU. As far as Kyle having better numbers than Bo; keep in mind that Bo started in Junes system as a freshman and did everything he could to help Kyle out before his injury. Kyle, like Bo was not comfortable in the 'run and shoot' offense.

Well technically didn't Kyle start in June's system as a freshman too? Didn't play his full freshman year, but still.

Clawman, he ripped a ligament in his ankle I believe, and also tweaked his back while lifting.

If I'm not mistaken, Bo, as a freshman, was June's first QB at SMU. So it wasn't just a freshman QB trying to learn the run and shoot, but a freshman QB leading a whole offense learning the new system.
