The Big Sky Conference has reprimanded and issued a one-game suspension to Weber State football player Anthony Morales, league commissioner Doug Fullerton announced on Tuesday.

Morales, a freshman linebacker from Edmond, Okla., was issued the suspension for the “targeting above the shoulders’’ contact that he initiated with 10:31 to play in the fourth quarter of Weber State’s game at Montana State on Saturday, Nov. 6.

Morales will serve the suspension on Saturday, Nov. 13, when Weber State plays at Northern Arizona in Flagstaff, Ariz.

Morales was penalized for the hit in the game for violating Rule 9-1, Article 3b., which states, “No player shall initiate contact and target a defenseless opponent above the shoulders.’’

NCAA Rule 9-6, Article 2 mandates that when such a call is made that does not result in a player disqualification; the conference is responsible for reviewing the play for possible additional sanctions prior to the next schedule game.
