Any news

Kinda thought it would have been announced last night that he had renewed his contract (IF he had, that is).

BUT - that being said - there seems to be a lot of confusion out there. Some say Baldwins' contract is good for four years - making this upcoming season the last one of the contract. No one really seems to know for sure. Seems to me if there was a 4th year, someone on here would be confirming that (because there are those that are "in the know") and yet - that has not happened. Then there is the rumor that there was the Wichita interview.

Mostly - I think it's eerily quiet and that no one inside the program is talking about it. But maybe, just maybe - that's because they just haven't completely worked out the details as of yet - perhaps it's a work in progress.

I think the "Wichita" thing was just Kalm making a funny. Wichita State doesn't have a football team. Unless there's some other school there that I don't know about.

Also, no one seems to know the deal with Bronson. Could have just been a rumor that was blown out of proportion. But then again, maybe the rumors are correct. Who knows, I guess we're just going to have to wait it out and see. Feb can't get here quick enough.

EWURanger/RockTheRed,
I spoke with one of the Coaches, he stated that coach Baldwin had a four contract. Also spoke with Renard Williams after the Celebration. My 1st question, Are you stayng or going to the NFL. He stated Yes Sir, I am staying. Will have to wait and see. Also I found out there was about 8 Recruits at the celebration. I saw Coach Sawyer with them when they came in. All sat next to the stage on the bottom row of the bleachers on the South side of Reese Court.

TJ was at the the WBB Game tonight, he said he is training very hard in California, will talk to his Agent see if he can get back for the FB Banquet sometime in February. All is behind now due to the playoffs, put everything behind. I could live with that, a worth while reason to be late. :) Women beat SAC State 98-70, men lost 57-55, we had 15 turnovers in the men game. Good Night. Vic

Read a post on FCS.com that Deontae Cooper a highly prized recruit out of Cali, was transfering from the UW ! Is 2nd in Ca in TD's scored behing Toby Gerhart. Very good bio on this kid ! Not sure if I like this trend though! GOEAGS!

In all honesty I think I described the Wichita State rumor as very unsubstantiated. I think the person who heard it was confusing WSU with Tulsa who has already hired a new coach.

As Vic indicated, the coaching staff and athletic administration have probably been more busy over the past two weeks with recruiting and post championship obligations than they were throughout the playoff run.

Boise State hired a new OC but I couldn't find anything on whether Stanford has? Any other high profile schools have an opening? It would seem the list of desireable HC and OOC jobs might be dwindling.

There is no news on Baldwin because, as of now, he isn't going anywhere. It always possible something changes, but it's doubtful for the 2011 season. He's happy at EWU, but like all coaches, will have an ear to the ground if something comes open that is a good fit for him and his staff.

The rumor on Deontae Cooper is wrong. At the end of the link below, it talks about his status.

Bronson was not able to enroll in school in time for winter quarter, but is scheduled to enroll in the spring. I think he would be able to take part in spring practice. We'll have to wait and see if that happens. Don't know if he and Pulu will be publicized with this recruiting class or not. Pulu is in school now and will start winter conditioning with the team.

Very much agreed. Can't imagine how much fun it must have been to recruit this year.

Wasn't concerened about Renard - we would have known by now if he was going.

Bronson may be a big pickup - but concerned that he played his freshman year and hear he sat this past year because academics weren't a priority. He was ineligible this past season on probation - from what I understand. Hate to see us get excited and spend the $$$ on him if he hasn't learned his lesson. (Case in point - Calvin Schmidke, Lakes HS and former Wulff recruit to EWU/WSU). When the goin' gets tough...

The Deontae Cooper thing was just started as a joke on another forum, nothing more. However Bronson is "in" from what i have heard pending academics in the spring. I think at this point no news is good news outside of verbals. As for coaching staff I think we will have this crew around for another year at least. Of course anything can happen but from what hear it's looking good.

RockTheRed, perhaps you have better info than I in regards to Bronson. I just now talked to a relative who plays for UW and this is what he told me...that he understood he was coming to EWU for a fresh start(nothing is certain until he enrolls of course). He did not sit out this season due to academics he was rosted and suited up for games(no way that happens if he is academic ineligible). He's an extremely hard worker and the players like him(no head tripping). Doesn't have big breakaway speed but tough runner with great balance. Hate to see some player get a label for poor academics or anything else unless it's a fact.

This link is pretty old news, dated Jan 6.
anything new?

My feelings exactly !!! old link. New National Champions!!! plus a potential 3rd round pick ??? Don't need the FBS anymore if you've got the talent !!! Everyone wants to play on a champion, not to mention will probably be the concensus # 1 next year !!!! Like it or not, IT ALL COMES with the territory !! GOEAGS!

Great news on the possiblility of Bronson, that's what this thread was about. Don't know much about his UW academics, would only be concerned if he's eligable for EWU. I would also assume Coach Nigel Burton of Portland State is also all over him as he's a former Husky, so let's wait and see.
As far as FBS athletes and transfering to EWU, don't look a gift horse in the mouth. The Griz have been getting these guys for years because of their winning record, so why not reap some of the benefits of a NC. Besides, the rumored players coming to EWU are from the state of Washington. Ever hear of the mighty Griz getting an FBS transfer from IN the state of Montana?? Hell no! Once the leave, they're gone.
Anyway, EWU has always been a school who recruits directly from highschools, with minimal FBS/JC transfers, but in this case, let's open our eyes and keep this thing rolling with a few transfers than can contribute while the iron is hot. Hell, why not?
Also, before I can crucified about BLM (QB) being an SMU FBS transfer, he was originally heavily recruited by coach Baldwin coming out of Highschool, went to SMU, and eventually ended up where he took an official visit at Eastern his Senior year, so there was a connection.

Correct, Mitchell *was* recruited by Baldwin and staff. He was originally going to Hawaii, but went with June Jones to SMU. Great story about how everything went full circle, very inspirational.

I've been reading the Husky forums some, and I haven't seen (or heard) anything negative related to Bronson or his academics. I don't think it's an academic issue. UW is very deep at running back at the moment, so he probably just wants to go somewhere where he can contribute, and who can blame him? The kid's talented and wants to play, and it makes sense to transfer to an in-state school that's a winner. If we do end up getting Bronson, we're going to have a nice combination of bruisers with him and Beumonte (great special teams), and speed guys with Brown, King, and company. Still can't get over how much Brown shined in the Nova game. A true Freshman coming in a game like that with big pressure and playing the way he did is spectacular.

Baldwin interviewing for a coaching job at Wichita State is not true. WSU had a football team for over 90 years but they dropped the program in 1986. The program never recovered after the plane that was carrying their team to a game crashed in 1970 killing 31 or the 40 players, staff and administration who were aboard.

Fact: It is a 3 year contract. The link wouldn't work so I pasted it. You can verify it on google "Beau Baldwin new HC at Eastern Washington" There are numerous stories stating he signed a 3 year contract.

The confusion of the 4 years may be the fact that Baldwin was at EWU prior to going to CWU for four years.

Beau Baldwin reportedly to be named Eastern Washington coach

Associated Press January 4, 2008
CHENEY, Wash. -- Beau Baldwin is heading back to Eastern Washington to become the Eagles' head football coach.

The 35-year-old Baldwin, the head coach at Central Washington for the past year, was introduced at a news conference Friday by Eastern athletic director Bill Chaves.

An Eagles assistant for four years before taking the Central Washington job, Baldwin replaces Paul Wulff, who left to take the Washington State job.

Baldwin signed a three-year contract with a two-year option that pays a base salary of $100,000 a year, EWU athletic officials said.

In his lone season as CWU, Baldwin's Wildcats posted a 10-3 record and went to the NCAA Division II playoffs.

Baldwin's selection came after Fresno State offensive coordinator Jim McElwain turned down an offer from Eastern, saying the timing was not right to return to his alma mater.
