As my Name implies I have two teams I root for and WSU is not one of them. Thank God! You must get into Heaven automatically if you're a Coug fan! Because you've already done your time in football Hell!

I would go crazy trying to root for that team. Sure their lack of success is bad enough but I have had sub .500 teams that I've had no problem pulling for but there is one thing that predominately find unsettling about the Cougs. Its the coach Mike Leach. I don't dislike him as personally although he is a little odd at times. Okay he's big into pirates, I can live with that! I listened to his Monday coaches show the week of Halloween and the host asked him if he were to go out trick or treating what would he go dress up as. Wow! I was kind of shocked the host would burn time on a dopey question like that with a important conference game to talk about (Could you imagine Larry Weir asking BB that question the week of the MSU game?) but to my surprise Coach Leach gave a 10 minute detailed reply about going as Frankenstein and about how he would make the mask. It was a little odd but I give him credit for his imagination.

The thing I can't stand about Leach is his addiction to the pass! For instance the Cougs where in a 3rd and 2, incomplete pass, now 4th and 2, incomplete pass and turn the ball over and they did this more than once. You can't run the ball twice for 2 yards? Run it on 3rd and if you get nothing then maybe do a rollout run/pass option. I've seen other teams do this but I usually its more like 3rd and 4 not 3rd and 2!

I have always felt good teams can run the ball! Even if its 20% of the time good teams can run the ball.
I remember pass happy BYU when Edwards was the coach would run the ball effectively. Even BB with the great passing game will use the run for all he can get out of it. I just had the thought if WSU fired Leach would BB on top of their list? I hope not, I think Leach deserves another year!

I doubt Leach is going anywhere as it would mean WSU would have to buy out the remainder of his contract...which IIRC is a pretty hefty sum. I don't think WSU's problems are entirely the coaching...Pullman is the hardest place to recruit to in the Pac-12 and I'd imagine it's not easy trying to convince 3,4, and 5 Star recruits in California to come play for a losing program. That said, they've had success in the past, so I don't know exactly what the issues are, and of course, we at EWU have some of those same challenges.

Even though I'm not a huge Paul Wulff guy, I thought it was wrong how WSU scape-goated him when there are clearly many other challenges at Wazzu...I've never been much of a fan since then.

The biggest thing I noticed about the Apple Cup was how stout Washington's defense looked. And even though each game is its own, it's hard not to want to draw some comparisons between common opposition. I don't understand how VA can go into Husky Stadium and break records, but the only scoring Wazzu can muster at home are some 4th Qtr. garbage points...all of this with supposedly vastly superior Pac-12 talent? I don't get it...has UW's defense improved that much during the course of the year? Or is our offense just better than Wazzu's this year?

EWUranger, I totally get it about WSU being a hard place to recruit but its that throw the ball every down mentality that I don't get. If the Cougs have a talent deficit then I don't think being one dimensional helps that.

Now on EWU's play at Husky stadium, I had typed my thoughts about attending the game and accidentally hit my F5 instead of the numeral 5 and lost my post but one of my points was about listening to the post game show on KJR radio. They have the same 3 guys on the show and have for years. The host and a former QB Hugh Millen and Dick Baird a former defensive coach under Don James. The host said he ran into UW AD Woodward right after the game and said "Don't ever schedule these guys again" and said Woodward nodded in agreement. The host also said that EWU has come into Husky stadium twice now and has lit up the defense of two different coaching staffs (Sark and Peterson). Hugh Millen didn't say a whole lot about EWU but more about what the Huskies defense didn't do. Dick Baird on the other hand when the others were talking about the Huskies giving up so many points said (paraphrase) "maybe its because these guys are damn good!"
Baird also had good words for Ronnie Hamlin saying "that guy is all over the place".
