Just wanted to throw out a couple of thoughts to the fans that follow/participate in this forum. Thanks for not getting caught up in the "Predicting the Score" mindset. When I visit other sites it seems to be some kind of required mantra to feed the frenzy by guessing just how much "Our Team" is going to win by. For some unexplained reason (we haven't been winning much?) this family of fans hasn't bought into that mindset. I hope we never do. I really appreciate the knowledgeable and thoughtful insights that flow from all of you. Thanks for keeping it real.

On a few other thoughts: 1) Our special teams kicked ASS today. 2) Barnum didn't allow the loud and hostile environment of the Holt Arena to influence the kids, and 3) What the hell is with calling a running play EVERYTIME Paris is at QB. Are we just setting someone up down the road ?

Thanks - today was a great day for the future of this program.

I think that the playbook for Penn is just going to grow larger where he just won't be a running option.
 
Predicting results is fun, but kind of a luxury. I think we're all more focused on stabilizing the program and getting some momentum relative to the rest of the Portland sports scene.
 
The day people start predicting PSU to win every game, regardless of the competition is the day I quit reading. I am always realistic about the teams I root for. They will lose some games they shouldn't, and win some that they shouldn't. There are a lot of Duck fans eating crow tonight.

This right here sums up the game perfectly. All the uncertainty surrounding the team at the end of last year, this is just perfect. :thumb:

Here we are, halfway through a season at 5-1, weathering the storms that pundits formulated would sink our ship, and you know what? We are a really good football team. Not perfect by any stretch of the imagination, but a really good team.

Now, perhaps some could argue a case otherwise, but at this point I can attest to the fact that they would have to be extremely convincing to sway my assessment. And perhaps most outsiders would come to the same conclusion as I have. This Viking team is very good.

So why is it that when a team is beaten their fans call for the heads of the coaches, or ridicule their squad's efforts, or find some disparaging things to say about the direction their program is headed, or they lay blame on the officiating ?

Why can't they just say "Damn, that team we played today WAS GOOD"!

There is always angry fans on the Bobcat site. Believe me, if they would have won, they would be saying how we ain't nuthin' and we ain't gonna ever be nuthin'. They lost, so they are angry at themselves. They were angry before the game, claiming that Barney said we were going to whip their ass. Well, we did. They were angry before, saying Portland is a "fun" place to get a W. Well, it ain't much fun now for them.

There are some great Cat fans and there are some not so great Cat fans and right now, sadly, the not so great Cat fans are ruling their fan site. I say, let them be.
 
Running through their forum, a few other standard gripes have been put up by the sore losers: "PSU has dirty players" and "the refs were obviously biased". Yeah, leave them alone.
 
One thing I noticed on both the North Texas and Montana States boards was that when we was running up the score was the comment that the defense just gave up and not that our offense might actually be good.

I have the feeling that unless we just beat the pants off everybody we play throughout the entire season, this is going to be the excuse we going to hear week in and week out.

If defenses are giving up against us, it means that we are winning. So I'll take it. :thumb:
 
On the face of it, NT defense was terrible; MSU was just bad. What's surprising is that MSU was unprepared for our running game. That's not going to be the case with Tim Walsh and Cal Poly.
