of sounding like a byu fan, I thought the officiating on Saturday night was one of the worst ever. There are typically 2-3 calls each game that are terrible on each team and so it evens out. I thought there were 7 or 8 terrible call that hurt Weber. I will be very concerned if I see Jim Giron, Mark Cook, and Aaron Schlessinger doing another Weber game.

Listening in to KLO and watching via B2 networks, even "Dutch" was complaining in Q3 about the calls and how there was sure no home court advantage in the way the game was being called.

Also thought it was funny: when Damien (I think) recovered the loose ball on the sidelines late in 4th quarter and went in to make the bucket ( which was taken away) and then to shoot free throws, Coach Boyle was claiming the ball had gone out of bounds. He continued to argue the point, and Dutch, forgetting his mike was live, yelled "T him up, T him up!" Too funny!

Over on the Northern board their complaining about how bad Arky and Dutch were on air. I think it was their (UNC) play by play guy that was getting reprimanded by the Sky for saying things on air about Montana players being a bunch of quitters. The Northern Colorado play by play guy is the biggest homer in the conference. My favorite play by play caller in the conf. besides Arky was Northern Arizona's, and the best line of the year was Idaho St. color guy said to the announcer at the end of triple OT "All I can say coach is sh!t", and the play caller responds, "well I think that just went over the air." Then it went into complete silence.

Arky is great, best around, and Dutch, well is Dutch.

Really? I don't remember any terrible calls that hurt Weber, but can think of several awful calls at crucial points that killed UNC. I felt like we were playing 5 on 8 for most of the game. For example, the charge call on Elliott Lloyd with about seven minutes to go was unbelievably bad and cost the Bears a 2-on-1. Also, Devon Beitzel was very clearly fouled on a late 3-pointer that could've cut Weber's lead to 1, but no call. I could list more, but I don't want to get my blood pressure up.

(Honestly, what I think we've learned here is that Big Sky refs are completely incompetent in every way. When fans from both teams in the biggest game of the season think their squads got shafted, that's a very bad sign. I was at the games, heard someone in the stands say they should've got good refs for that big of a game; I really wanted to inform him that the Big Sky has no good refs.)

The white Bald ref... is perhaps the worst ref I have ever seen. He had no clue what was going on. He made a call while he was clearly talking to Coach Boyle which he never could have seen, since he was facing the UNC coach and bench, the play was happening on the opposite side of the court behind him.

I don't think any of us are going to agree on the reffing. What we can agree on is that IT WAS BEYOND SHITTY! There were bad calls on both sides of the ball.

too true, too true.

I know everybody is trying so hard to be nice to Northern and fans, but come on we all know those refs after the game threw on their yeller Bears shirts and hopped on the chartered bus back to Greeley. It was the worst officiated game I've ever seen.

Did you watch the game when we played at Montana?

That was the worst and most one-sided officiated game iv'e ever seen.

Are you kidding me? Can you name one questionable call that went UNC's way? Neither can I. What we all know is that these refs had one job on Saturday: Make sure the Big Sky Tournament is in Ogden. That way, none of the conference higher-ups have to travel and it's in the league's biggest venue. The refs had to make sure Weber State won that game, and they did just that.

BTW, I can vouch for the refs, they weren't on the bus.

If this was the case we would Host every year.
How about a dozen questionable calls that went Northerns way, did you not hear the crowd booing the refs all night. They kept you in the game man. The point is inspite of this we still won. You guys were so high up in the arena you probably missed the over the back(s) on Kingman, and Proctor, and Lillard getting hacked to hell 3 times in one play by Bonner with no call.

You've got some serious issues if you think that the refs were favoring Weber. What game were you watching? Good Hell!! UNC lost the game, they got beat by a better team on Saturday. If anything, the Bears got the majority of calls to go their way on Sat. Don't come on here and try to claim that Weber had an advantage and not have any proof. Oh, your two examples were two of the better calls of the game. Beitzel never should have gotten shots at the end, he fell down (I.E. FLOPPED) and the charge was textbook. That was a great play on Sessions' part. How about Proctor's many moving screens or Bonner's holding of Lillard's jersey throughout the game? Big Sky refs suck!! We all know it, but if you want to see a one sided officiated game watch Weber's game in Missoula.

I agree with most of the replies on this thread. I don't believe the officiating changed the outcome of the game and it may have made it a little more amusing than most games. However, it had to be quite frustrating for the coaches and players. You teach your kids what the rules are and how the game is supposed to be played, and then three, less than qualified individuals, turn it upside down. Ther were two or three plays where none of the three saw the play, they all looked quizically at each other, and then made a wild a$$d guess at what the call should be. If you evaluate every single call, and non call, in the game, I think you will find that they got it right about 20% of the time. It was in the top three of the worst I have seen in over fourty years. Once again, just as many calls went in our favor as went against us, but it was a very poorly officiated game. If the league pays them what they were worth that game, they should get about 20% of their regular pay.

You should bother to learn the rules of basketball before you go acting all high and mighty. On the Beitzel play, the Weber player (I don't remember who) undercut him as he was shooting a jumpshot, that's a foul. Also, Beitzel broke a bone in his foot on that play, so it definitely wasn't a flop. On the Lloyd play, Session didn't give him room to land as a defender has to do in that situation. If the offensive player doesn't have room to land, it's a blocking foul, plain and simple.

To your points about Bonner and Proctor: With Bonner's defense on Lillard, that's elite-level defense, I'm sorry you've never seen it before. Proctor didn't set any moving screens because they were too busy getting him in foul trouble with phantom calls. I remember one in particular when Panos tripped over his own feet and they called a foul on Proctor.

By both the officials and the other teams in the league, UNC gets treated like a pledge in a fraternity, and as a Bears fan I'm really sick and tired of it. We'll see who the better team is on March 10th.

GoBears2010...... I hate to say this but your making up excuses to why Weber State took this game to you and your team. Even your coach knows that Weber State beat you down like "third graders." And to be quite honest you yourself are acting like a cry baby third grader. Plain and simple is that you lost. In no way did the refs give us a win or give you a loss. Heck, that loss should've been worse, the refs were nice by not throwing out your coach and giving him a technical for slamming the scores table and losing his cool. And your player who broke his foot, I am sorry about that. But if you can explain to be how a player breaks his foot while in the act of shooting while in the air, then maybe he was fouled. But I saw what happened and that guy shot the ball and then landed on his defenders foot. Thats not a foul. And if you think anyone on your team can stop Lillard your wrong, he has played against much better talent than what he saw Saturday. Heck, I bet he saw better talent while in High School. Plain and simple is that THE better team won, and the same team that punked you like third graders will also punk you again come March 10. Stop looking for reasons to justify your team from losing. After you have won at least 18 titles and feel like your team is worthy of a title, then look for reasons to complain. Until then, be happy you are finally a Division 1 team, if the rest of us charter teams have been able to survive with Big Sky refs, then for a few years you can too. I really like the Bears and what they are doing with their program, but to come on other teams forum and call WSU fans out, does not make much sense. I respect the UNC fan base and program.

Who undercut Beitzel? I've watched a replay of that final play, and if you think landing on a defenders foot an undercut, wow you really are an idiot. I feel badly that he broke his foot, but he was not fouled on that play.
