#4 EWU
#5 Cal Davis
#8 Montana State
#9 Weber
#23 Montana

I would be shocked if MSU ends the year ranked above Weber.

Weber faces 4 teams in these rankings.

#5 @ UC Davis
#17 UNI
#23 @ UM
Teams to Watch NAU

Really excited for that UNI home game. Hope the community shows up.

A top 10 ranking would be a big jump for MSU. I wouldn't put them in the top 10 to begin the season. Their OOC schedule is difficult (@ Texas Tech, SEMO, @ W Illinois, Norfolk St) but their conference schedule is very favorable (NAU, @ Poly, Sac St, @ UND, SUU, @ UNC, @ Davis, UM). Davis is the only team they will face that had a winning record in conference play last season.

And I don't think UM is a top 25 team at this point.

Montana State returns a lot of talent and gets Murray back at QB. From what I understand, they lost a good chunk of their defense, but I'm not really sure. A bob will hopefully will read this and make some comments. Yet, to me, I really feel that Montana State might be the team to beat in the Sky this season. Yes, Eastern and Davis are both going to be good, but both lost quite a few players on both side of the ball. I really thought Jake Maier was done. I didn't realize he had another season. Davis will be an offensive juggernaut again, same with Eastern. Yes teams in the Sky will be able to score points, but, in the end, it comes down to defense. Defense will win a championship. Weber's offense is improved and will score more, but will the defense be as good?

Heard it's doubtful that Murray returns. Athlon talks about QB being deep at MSU. If you read MSU's forum, QB is the position they are worried about. And most of them are not as optimistic as this Athlon ranking has them. Still, like I said, their conference schedule is very favorable.

Polls make for good conversation fodder and that's about all. The only thing I know for sure is that it will all look different at the end of the season. Some teams will do better and some worse. Either way we go, it will all be interesting.

Athlon predicting EWU with the auto-bid and MSU, Davis, and Weber as at-large. Also, N Iowa with an at-large.

So does Montana State go back to the LB Power offense? Or throw one of the inexperienced QBs into the fire?

Back during the John L. Smith debacle, I never thought you would mention Weber State going for a third consecutive Big Sky Title in football.

Its exciting to see Weber State getting so much attention and respect, but preseason polls are tough get overly excited about. I am hopeful Weber State can keep it up, but unless the defense maintains the elite defense like it did last year, I doubt they can win the conference title again.

There were 3-4 games Weber State’s defense pretty much single handedly won the game. I think there is talent and potential on offense, but I still think the scheme is lame and handicaps the talent. I also think the play calling and stubbornness to adapt to opponents stacking the line will be too much to overcome this year. I think they need a new direction for O Coordinator and missed out by not making the change. I hope I am wrong. I guess we will find out.

I am excited for football but will enjoy Cubs baseball (hopefully) until then.
