We had the following home attendances for 2012:

Montana 10,529
North Dakota 8,646
Sac State 8,714
Cal Poly 8,644
UC Davis 6,011

TOTAL 42,544
Per game average 8,509

2011 TOTAL 35,594 (only 4 home games)
Per game average 8,899

A little bit of a bummer that we didn't beat the 2011 figure, although we were very close. As is often repeated, it makes sense to have as many early season and mid-season home games as possible, and leave November to hit the road. We didn't have a home game last year after Oct. 29. We only had one September game this season, and two in November... that's a tough situation for Eastern. Playing before school is in session has never really affected attendance adversely.

From years and years of experience, I can factually state that November is a crappy month to play in Cheney. The weather is usually awful. Having a stadium with a cover over the stands will certainly help ala the Gateway Project. But we need to learn that we need to schedule as heavy as possible in September and October at home whenever possible. We have really gotten into a bad habit of playing all of our early games on the road, and this creates all sorts of problems. Next year, we only play D-II Western Oregon at home and don't see another home game until the SIXTH WEEK of the season. I have no idea what the rationale for that is. :dunce:

Remember though, early home games mean no students.
So while it's nice to have home games in early September when you can wear shorts and flip flops, we miss out on the student section.

There's pros and cons to both of those.

One thing I'd like to see more of is early home games instead of the night home games. A night home game should be special, like a once a year thing (or playoffs since TV coverage likely dictates that).

I definitely feel like the attendance figures were off most of the games this year. The game against Montana was the once that I noticed it the most. Part of the problem is that they didn't properly count the students. Although this last game against UC Davis was probably our lowest attended game, there is no way there was 2600 less people than the week before against Cal Poly :ohno:

I was at both games... I'd believe it. The home side wasn't full at all... sections A and E (ends) were maybe half full if that. A couple hundred on the visitors' side, and half full endzone.

The conference back loads the schedule so you'd have to use a late bye week to switch an OOC game from November to September. But that's not necessarily a bad thing...especially if you're play off bound and need to get healthy like in 2010. I think you're correct Dopa and I'd like to see it happen too.

But as for late starts, those of us with kids in youth sports, golfers, the Spokane Fair, and the other September goings on and commitments really appreciate them.

On a bright note, when was the last time we sold out a cold weather game that didn't involve the Montana's? We did that with Cal Poly. I think this is not only a result of performance but of increased marketing.

Would love to see another Friday night game in the Quarters or Semi's this year....

I was hoping we'd break last season's attendance record, getting 2500 fewer people than our average didn't help that out. Our attendance really takes a hit during the later part of the season when the cold starts setting in. Would be cool if the stadium had some more protection from the elements, that would definitely help out.
