Bahamas Showcase field

As official as you're going to get for the 8 teams in the Island of the Bahamas Showcase without the company actually announcing it themselves

I would love to go to the Bahamas, but I just don't see it in the budget this year. Somewhere in the lower 48, I'm there. Bahamas..., not so much.

Oh well; It should be some good competition and the team should have a great experience. Hopefully, there will be radio or streaming to be consumed. :coffee:

Yeah, I'm sure Klauke will be on KLO. The go-to for smaller events like this for streams seems to be Facebook Live, so I'm hoping the tourney will have video available. It's possible CBS Sports might have interest in it, but that would only be for the title game, I'd guess.

it looks like a field we could take down. we wont that tourney in florida a few yrs back. maybe we could do the same in bahamas if rahe can let the dogs out

Greetings from New Rochelle. Word is that Iona and Weber St. will be meeting in the first round. Also some rumors that the tourney will be moved from the Bahamas. Can anyone confirm?

Howdy Gaelsfan, good to see that we will be meeting Iona again this season. Hopefully, we show up and play a bit better than last year in Alaska. Iona is a heck of a program. One I respect a great deal. I feel Weber is fairly similar; except in the West. What can you tell us about Iona's talent level and potential finish in conference this season?

Weber, we have a mixed team, since we have a number of experienced veterans and a handful of underclassman. I wouldn't doubt seeing a couple of walkons getting mins at times this season. However, this is the first time since 2003-04 that we have a tall and long lineup.

In 03-04 we had a 6-11 Center (Lance Allred), 6-8 Power Forward (Slobadon Ocokelic sp?), 6-6 Shooting Forward (Nic Sparrow) and a 6-4 Shooting Guard (Johnny Hamilton). Too bad our point guard wasn't the greatest that season. This season we have 6-10 Zack Braxton at Center, 6-8 Michal Kozak or 6-9 Brekkot Chapman playing Power Forward, 6-6 Ryan Richardson or 6-9 Brekkot Chapman playing Shooting Forward, 6-6 Ryan Richardson or 6-4 Cody John/6-5 Dusty Baker Shooting Guard, and 5-11 Jerrick Harding at the point.

This season, I feel Harding will be huge but our teams strength is definitely our height, speed, and ability to spread the floor. Dusty Baker is kinda our utility/glu guy. He can play 1-4 and is just tough and tricky. Our freshmen who will play, 6-8 Michal Kozak, maybe 7-0 Anton Vialen, 6-3 Trevon Airy and 6-1 Doc Nelson. We have had some strange injuries this summer, but should be all patched up and ready to ball by the time we face off in November.

Looking forward to the game and tournament. Great idea having a field of MM programs, since it's difficult for good MM programs to schedule OOC games. Sounds like both teams have opposite strengths. Iona is projected as the heavy favorite to win the MAAC this season. This year's team is very strong at the guard/wing positions. Iona will probably start 6'1'' Ricky McGill and 5'10'' Schadrac Casimir in the backcourt. The other probable starters are 6'5'' Deyshonee Much, 6'6'' EJ Crawford and 6'8'', grad transfer TK Edogi from Tulsa. Other rotation players will be 6'3'' Umass grad transfer Zach Lewis, 6'7'' Juco Roland Griffin and 6'1'' Fr. CJ Seaforth. 6'7'' Fr. Gavin Kensmil, 6'9'' Tyrell Williams and 6'7'' Jan Svandrlik, will be fighting it out for PT. Iona's weakness is our frontcourt, without any proven player, though the staff is very high on Tulsa transfer Edogi, who is very athletic. Iona returns 6 guards who scored at least 20+ points at least once in a game last season, so scoring is not going to be a concern. The big concern is rebounding and rim protection

Gaelsfan,

Let's hear your take on Friday's game. Both teams have a few games under their belt. It looks like your squad has couple of close losses to good teams. I think we will try to use our size advantage in the post against you early then let that lead to some inside out threes.

Any word if the Bahamas are recovered and ready to host a tournament. I have not heard of too many Weber fans making the trip but we should have a few there.

Nassau did not come come close to any hurricane eyes or tracks so my guess is they fared just fine this hurricane season.

Hi guys. Some Iona fans went to the Bahamas for the tournament, have not heard any complaints or issues, so it should be a nice trip for both the teams and fans. Looking forward to the game Friday night. Frustrating start to the season for Iona, with 2 losses. The 3 point shooting has been poor the first couple games, which has always been the strength of Iona. Confident that will improve, hopefully sooner rather than later. Rebounding will be a issue all season, more likely than not. Tulsa grad transfer 6'8'' TK Edogi is the only true big that's in the rotation, and has been much better than expected, going for 14&9. Iona's main rotation will probably only go 6 deep, possibly 7 if Ced Casimir is healthy. Will play 2 more kids a few minutes in case of foul trouble. The top 7 are the most athletic and best defensively since Coach Cluess has been at Iona. Iona will be tough to beat, if they start knocking down threes.

The concern of Iona fans is the obvious height advantage Weber St. will have over the Gaels. Would expect Iona to press, and try and get out and run, as that is how they stayed in the games with Albany and Cuse, despite the poor shooting. Any questions on Iona feel free to ask. Looking forward to a good game.

A few years ago, pressing us was effective. Last year, teams stopped doing it so much. Primarily because we were getting dunks off the other teams press. The only concern I have about getting pressed is the number of freshmen we have in the rotation. They are a bit less battle tested.

One thing that we do is drop three back on D on every shot. It limits our offensive boards, but we don't give up many fast break points. As far as pressing ourselves, we don't do it much. Probably for the same reasons we drop three back. We seem to be a much better shot blocking team this year, so there is always the chance that we would throw a press at you every once in a while. We will zone you occasionally, but our primary D will be man. The changes in defense from game to game primarily relate to how we handle the high pick and role or guard to guard ball screens.

These 3 day 3 game tournaments are great for us. It is similar to what we might get in our post season tournament in Reno. The guys must learn to make quick adjustments to be successful. :coffee:

be very careful when speaking of the sacred twitter account of weberhoops. :bad:

Not watching, listening to the radio broadcast. It sure sounds like a lot of Iona layups. Weber turning the ball over too much and it sounds like Iona's strength (3pt shooting) isn't there. Rather, they are beating Weber's strength (post play). At least, that's what it sounds like,

Hmm...down 15 with 3 mins to go and Braxton/Kozak/(Chapman-- doesn't really play big) 12 pts 20 rebs, Iona's Edogi/Griffin 22 pts 20 rebs. Iona with 5 players in double-digits, Harding & Richardson with 29 & 27 but Weber with nearly 20 TOs.

Based on the USU game I worried defensively and it sounds like Iona was able to score quickly and without enough defensive resistance, especially at the rim.
