Bands and Traditions

Sorry to have to ask this question, but is there a band at EWU? And what about traditions. What are they? I googled bands and the last update was 1998.

To me the band is an after thought. They will march in the tailgating section right before the game starts, but even that is very disorganized. They don't march in a line, but kind of roam. This is something that my friends and I have discussed before could improve to help enhance the pre-game experience.

One other tradition that they seem to do is always play the death march from star wars when EWU scores.

and they were cut last year, but saved at the last minute. I believe it was a private donor that stepped up and paid for it.

Like fccubed already mentioned, they go around the tailgate area and play a little bit during pregame. They of course play various little ditties and shorts inbetween plays, and perform at halftime. As for their name... EWU Eagle Marching Band. I played the quads (tenors, quints) in the drumline my first two years at EWU, but quit because of the time commitment and my back. Second-heaviest instrument, Sousaphone/Tuba being the most.

That's me in the afro wig, and the rest of the drumline, plus Swoop groovin' out during tailgating.

Cool funfact, the Band was in the movie "End Game" that went straight to DVD in 2006. Horrible movie, but it was filmed in Spokane, specifically Gonzaga in the scene the band is in.

On set:

Some Screen Grabs from the movie:

The band is an integral part of the experience. I hope they never face cuts again... Maybe the university could stop paying for all these professors that work 3 hours a day and go on sabbatical every 3 years instead...

AMEN to THAT !!!

I guess you could say shooting the cannon off after a score could be tradition....I still jump after the first score, even though I know it's coming.

When is the homecoming game this year?

goeags.com doesn't have it noted (last schedule update march '10).....
