Basketball Historians

When I was in school we had a basketball team. But I never found out why the program was dropped in the 1981. Anybody know why dropped basketball in 1981?

1981 was the Year That Was, from the point of the budget. PSU cut whole ACADEMIC programs that year, let alone athletics! We looked for pennies in every corner. If it hadn't been for Freeman Williams, nobody would have noticed when basketball was cut. Blumel made his reputation with those cuts, for better or worse. Reaganomics was a miserable time for everyone in Oregon - including basketball suporters.

That was right around the time Mouse Davis left, right? Guess he could see the writing on the wall.

Yeah, there was talk of cutting football too.

Huge recession during those years. Kinda glad they cut basketball instead of football. Football would have never been brought back.
