Rejoice and be glad....for college basketball is upon us. The only thing that would make me happier is another 3 week trip to Europe and the only happier time of the year is conference/NCAA tourney time in mid-March.

ESPN's 24 hour hoops binge starting tonight is both obscene and awesome at the same time. Too bad there is work and obligations and sleep requirements getting in the way.

Lumberjacks are on Fox Sports Arizona Tuesday night vs. Fresno State. Tv, radio and bigskytv.org coverage so no excuses not to follow. Hope the Flagstaff fans give some love. 9 of the first 12 games on the road is a tough way to spend November and December. Two conference games (UM and MSU on the road) a full month before conference play resumes confounds me. Conference play ought to be after non-conference is done. It hasn't happened yet and I already don't like it.

I had the pleasure of attending the NAU-UofA mens bball game with a few friends Sunday in Tucson and sat in the NAU section. Jacks played hard, as expected, but weren't quite quick laterally or as big as the Wildcats. Cameron Jones showed he can compete with any competition. Come conference time I think Lepley and Johannsen will be one of the better post combos in the league. Definitely some talent there. Guard play may determine how the season goes. Other than Jones, all of the guards are either young or new to the program as transfers.

I loved the fact that the Lumberjacks never quit/backed down against UofA. The Jacks competed til the end. Two of my UofA friends in attendance commented on the same thing and says that's why smaller teams like NAU are easy for them to root for. A moment of pride there in being a Lumberjacks fan.

I am really excited for the game tonight. (Even though it is in the Rolle) but there is one piece of good news- The pep band is back this season!!! The one part I like about playing in the rolle is we CAN make it loud and it should be a large crowd tonight(I hope). Fresno State is supposedly more athletic than the University of Arizona so it is awesome that we have these flatlanders(San Jouquin Valley) at 7,000 ft. Go Jacks!!!!!!!
