Beat #2: Pacific Union College

Well, the Cats get a nice warm up to prepare for their match up with BYU on Saturday. What can we expect from Pacific Union? I hope to see at least 12 guys get some mins tomorrow night.

So the first beat against Antelope, we bring in the Jazz Dunk team. Tomorrow we will have our Mascot night. Usually we have mascot night on one of the bigger conference games. Does it seem like we are planning our best entertainment for our biggest dog games?

The day before the Utah State game, SATOG mentioned to athletics that his radio station was doing a food drive. We wanted in on the food drive and in less than 24 hours we had shirts printed and ready to go. There was one post on Facebook at 1:00 on gameday that said there would be a food drive at the game and you would get a free shirt for donating. With the crowd we had it could have been so much bigger if it would have been planned better. Next time we should make it a competition and have a Weber vs. USU or BYU food drive. Our game promotion efforts don't seem to be well thought out and executed. Why waste mascot night on this game?

Not sure, but wouldn't be surprised if the reasoning had similarities as to why when Rahe held the mic at PnW, he used the time to beg those in attendance to bring people to the games. Maybe the gem of a home schedule needs any angle it can get to try and keep the DEC from looking as it did vs Antelope U.

That is on the Marketing Guru: Da Gooch...need I say more?

Not a fan of these sleeved jerseys. They don't work for the NBA, and they don't work for Weber State. I personally think they look hideous. I love the design of Weber State's traditional jerseys this year though.

Not many comments about the game last night. I was anxious to see Richardson get a little more time, but was disappointed. Eight minutes wasn't much and when he finally got in, the offense was instant, 8 points in 8 minutes, 2-3 from three. Jefferson's line was also solid as well. If you can't tell I'm a big fan of Richardson and his smooth stroke. I'm hoping he can do whatever he needs to, to get out of Rahe's doghouse.

While Senglin has been hot, and I've posted about defense and low turnovers with the current starting lineup, I'd still like to see both those guys closer to the regular rotation because I think their shooting ability is going to be needed before this season is out.

I agree. Richardson is such a dangerous weapon. When he is on, he is automatic. Like you said, instant offense. I think Randy's issue with him is that he isn't a great defender and his rebounding isn't pretty. Final issue is that he doesn't distribute, i.e. make the extra pass. He usually is gunning to shoot, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. I liked what he did last night. He was easily the best player on the court when he was in the game, he just needs to hone his defensive skills and hit the boards harder. But he made some nice passes and got some pretty shots off. He was really unselfish. Out of him or Jefferson getting more mins, I would definitely go with Richardson.

Tough to judge anything from last night's "game." Much of it was a fast break drill for Weber. And Pacific Union had so few guys who could make a basket, even if they were right under it, that it was hard to tell if Weber was playing decent defense.
I guess one plus, as Rahe said, was Braxton got to score and hopefully that will help his confidence going forward.
Next 3 weeks should be interesting with 4 road games.
I'm looking forward to seeing SD St come to the Dee on the 22nd. Will be a nice barometer before conference play.
