Beau Baldwin to become head coach at Cal Poly

Guess no more triple option offense for Cal Poly. Good for him I guess although I would have figured he would have taken a FBS gig before coming back to FCS.

That is quite the surprise! I would assume they will go away from the TO with Baldwin at the helm. I think it takes teams quite a while to move on from a full commitment to the TO, so it could be quite the journey for Beau.

For what its worth, the Eagles will head to San Luis Obispo 10/23/2021.

This. GT was horrible this year as an example. Of course, after listening to the CP announcers during this year's contest, pretty sure their QB is the next big thing.

Feeling a little negative about this. Apparently EWU is the hotbed for finding HC's for other BigSky programs now.. Where's Paul Wulff going to land? Well, it's not a done deal yet. If I was Beau, would be calling Ty Gregorak right now...

Hmm..won't that be a cut in pay? Would Jimmy Lake bring him in to coach UW? Would there be a piece in his contract where he can't go to another Pac 12 team? Is he taking Cal Poly for a year or two then Lake can bring him into UW program?

I wish Cal Poly would hire Best so Beau Baldwin could come back home! I’m also surprised he didn’t take an FBS job instead of coming back to the FCS to coach a team not named EWU. I wish the very best for Beau, but I don’t like this move for him. Was the HC at Cal fired?

Some seriously different context here.

Love Beau. He never really got the results on the field at Cal. Whether that was a talent issue or a head coaching issue, nobody can know for sure. We all know what he is capable of.

2014... ????? seriously, 2014????????????

2020 is a very important season for Aaron Best, a 5th place finish in the Big Sky hurts, now the conference gets even stronger. Keep in mind SLO is one of the best locations in the Big Sky conference (imo). Beau Baldwin could turn CP into a real contender in two years or so and maybe even sooner. It’s time for Best to step up his game and it’s time for Eastern to get this stadium project done. Good luck Beau Baldwin & Go Eags!

ESPN’s Kyle Bonagura has confirmed FootballScoop’s report that Cal offensive coordinator Beau Baldwin will be the new head coach at Cal Poly. Baldwin will be introduced at 5 p.m. PT on Wednesday.

Don't get the "Best needs to step up." Almost like needing to send him packing. We just made a trip to the championship and like Baldwin did had a down year afterwards. People ...calm down. The grass isn't always redder on the other side. We have a great coach and we will be fine. Yes it is concerning that Baldwin is back in the Sky and knows that area, but he wasn't the only one that was recruiting during that time. EWU is a special place...we will get ours.

More BigSky news:

Northern Colorado (FCS): Ed McCaffrey will be the next head coach at Northern Colorado, sources tell FootballScoop. Yes, that Ed McCaffrey.

Kind of a weird hire. McCaffrey only has 1 year coaching experience and that's high school. Have to wonder if this based on recruiting in Colorado with the McCaffrey name.

As for Beau, there's been all sorts of rumors out of Cal. I've heard that Beau was in complete control of the offense and people were not happy with how the offense looked. There was some speculation he could be fired. I think he's trying a different route to a P5 HC gig. Rebuild Cal Poly, get a solid MWC HC job, then hopefully get the PAC 12 job.

Didn't Troy Taylor come to Eastern with only high school experience? Then after 1 year here went to Utah for two seasons then to Sac State. I am probably missing something there but that is my recollection.

In 1994, Taylor served as offensive coordinator at Casa Roble High School in Sacramento, California.[4] He served one year on Rick Neuheisel's staff at the University of Colorado as a graduate assistant in 1995 primarily working with wide receivers.[4] He was hired by Steve Mariucci as Cal's wide receivers coach in 1996 and later served 2 years as a QB coach and 1 year as a tight-ends coach under Tom Holmoe.

Then he did some athletic AD work at high school...color for Cal Bears couple years then back to high school 4 years before coming to EWU.
