Beckner to Boise State

Since there are a bunch of people on here that still like Beckner, thought I'd throw this out. Spent one year at Nebraska as an assistant and now he's going to Boise State as an assistant also.

Interesting. I wonder why he is changing jobs so often? I think this makes 4 jobs in 4 years, or maybe it's 5 years. I forget. :yikes:

“As we got toward the end of the season, we evaluated everything we do,’’ Nebraska coach Tim Miles told the Omaha World-Herald on Monday. “As we evaluated everybody’s role and where we’re trying to go, I think Phil is better off in the West. I think it’s really better for everybody.

“Phil made our program better. I’m going to miss him. But at the same time, I think this was the right move for him.’’

Beckner is likely to take a fairly significant paycut to come to Boise State. Nebraska releases its salaries each summer, so Beckner’s is not yet available, but the Cornhuskers’ other two assistants currently on staff made $237,000 in the 2014-15 season. Henderson’s base salary was $96,544.

So, what the coach is telling us is that Phil either doesn't understand eastern players or that he doesn't understand recruiting in the east. They had to let him go. It was best for him as well. Sounds like coach speak to me. What I read is that they fired his butt because he couldn't do what they wanted him to do.

I hope he has better success at Boise. I think that he has the potential to be a good coach. Time will tell. :thumb: :thumb:

Or perhaps Beckner and the Nebraska HC had a clash in personalities. :twocents:

That 'Doesn't play well with others' thing can ruin a career. If that is what it was, he needs to do some real sole searching, and get it fixed. :coffee:

I don't understand why you are placing the "blame" squarely on Phil Beckner. From everything I have heard here is that all of the coaches, players, and athletic dept staff LOVED Phil. What is your beef with him Olds?
In having talked to Phil several times over the years I would have to assume that the problem was the personality of the Nebraska HC and NOT Phil.
Beckner is damn cool and a very hard working coach.

I'd love to have Beckner on our staff. He is an excellent coach. This might be a great opportunity for Phil. At least he won't be looking for a job like Tim Miles will be at this time next year.

I don't dislike Phil. He wasn't fired because everyone loved him. That is a ridiculous concept. It isn't the head coaches job to adjust to his assistants, it's the opposite. Phil is young and still learning. The sooner he learns to make adjustments in his own style to match the organization he is in, the faster he will have success in coaching. The personal relationship thing, 'plays well with others', is huge in this process. Technical ability is secondary.
