Basketball: Bendall's surgery today: Out for tonight against Weber State
December 23rd, 2009
A source close to the basketball program confirmed to Aggieville that Nate Bendall is having a surgical procedure done today to repair what was diagnosed as a heart flutter. He will miss tonight's game against Weber State and is expected to be sidelined for 7-10 days.
Aggieville reported on Monday that Bendall was scheduled to have the surgery sometimes this week, but the source wasn't specific on which day. The day was today for Bendall, who has played some of his best basketball of the season over the past two days at the Basketball Travelers Invitational.
In Bendall's place, Matt Formisano will start, confirmed the source. But it will also mean increased playing time for sophomore big man Brady Jardine. And it means that sophomore center Modou Niang will ascend to the fourth big man, which will probably get him some rotation minutes as well.
Bendall's surgery is not considered serious, career, nor life threatening. He had the option of getting the surgery done during or after the season, but decided to get it done over the holidays.
