ISU women lost their season opener at Santa Clara today, 82-78. The Bengals led through three quarters but got outscored 32-17 in the final period. The Bengals were called for 37 fouls and a technical, and Santa Clara shot 48 free throws. Freshman Estefie Ors had 23 points, on 8 of 10 shooting, and Isabela Vera de Ray had 4 treys and 17 points to lead ISU.

The technical was called on Seton for not having a substitute in the game within 15 seconds after an ISU player fouled out. I was right there and never heard any type of warning. Seton said on the postgame he was never issued any warning and never heard the official say anything before hand. It turned out to be a five point play because in addition to the made basket, there were two technical free throws and then the free throw for the made basket. I have never heard of a technical being called for that. Just bizarre.

ISU had four players foul out, two other players had four fouls and of course Brook's injury.

Kids played their guts out. Seton said the first thing the Sana Clara coach told him when they shook hands was, "we didn't deserve to win this game.'" Seton apologized to the fans who came because he said this game set women's basketball back 50 years. The foul discrepency was enormous.

The Santa Clara coach also got hit with a technical. It was just a bad day.
