According to Verbal Commits, ISU has offered North Idaho JC guard Sam Dowd. The 5-7 PG averaged almost 18 points and 7 assists per game this past season. He has two years of eligibility left.

Here's an interesting story about Dowd, who spent a good deal of his high school years homeless.

If he comes to ISU, I will root for him every game except when he plays Sac St. ....very emotional article...a kid worth rooting for....wish him the best of luck where ever he decides to pursue his education....

Thanks Sac, I agree.

Ryan Collingwood (Coeur d'Alene Press) tweeted last week that he had 3 D-I visits lined up, including ISU...

I'm always encouraged when the guys we offer have other options. Although I must say at 5-5 there are some obvious defensive liabilities. Offensively he was very productive (18 points and 7 assists).

Agreed, Skippy.

In the first round of the NCAA tournament ("play-in game"), I did enjoy watching Junior Robinson (5'5") play for Mount St. Mary's. He scored 20+ in the win over New Orleans...

Dowd visited this weekend...

Here's another Dowd story -- when NIC assistant coach was badly injured in a car accident on a recruiting trip, the head coach spent every night at the hospital supporting him. Meanwhile Dowd and a teammate led NIC practices.

"At the beginning as a captain of the team, it was hard because the other guys look at how you react," Dowd told the Spokesman-Review. "It was an emotional roller-coaster over those few weeks, but Coach was telling me I had to be calm and stay balanced. Don't get too high, don't get too low and pick the guys up."

The more I hear about this young man, the more I like him. I hope he succeeds wherever he goes.
