Bengals show life vs. EWU

Even though ISU continues to struggle defensively, tonight the Bengals showed some offense scoring 85 in a 92-85 loss to Eastern Washington. Freshman Brandon Boyd came off the bench to score 23 on 7-of-9 shooting, was 5-of-6 from outside the arc. Ethan Telfair had 21 and Geno Luzcando had 14 pts. and 4 boards. That was the good news.

The bad news is that Hayes Garrity may be done for the year with an academic issue. He's a good student and doesn't have bad grades, but he's a grad student and must maintain a higher GPA than undergrads. There's a slim chance he may return, but apparently very slim.

Then in the second half tonight, forward Robert Jones III suffered what appeared to be a leg injury after an EWU player committed a flagrant foul, knocking him to the floor. RJ III missed the rest of the game, being helped off the court. After the game Coach Evans said he thinks Robert will be okay...sure hope so. We can't afford to lose any more players.

Saturday the Bengals host an Idaho team that is also struggling, getting blown out by Weber tonight 91-to-66. Guard Vic Sanders and reserve forward Brayon Blake were the only two Vandals in double figures with 13 and 11 points respectively. Unfortunately, if we don't play better defense we could be in trouble again.

I will say that being in Reed Gym makes a huge difference when the Bengals go on their runs like they did tonight. The crowd's response was a big plus. Glad we're back in Reed.
