Best Eastern games YOU attended

As you can tell by my post count today, it's been a day with a lot of free time. So, for fun, I'm listing my favorite Eastern games for which I've witnessed in the flesh:

5. 2010 vs. Montana 36-27 (Cheney)
The first game on the red turf, and whatta game. The Eagles score 9 points in the last 30 seconds via game winning field goal and fumble return to rub it in.

4. 1990 vs. Montana 36-35 (Missoula)
Down 35-17 with 8 minutes to go and with the starting QB out, Scott Stuart throws three straight TDs and the defense stuffs Montana to win the best come-from-behind win I've ever seen.

3. 1992 vs. Boise State 17-16 (Cheney)
The Eagles lay down a monster defensive showing including a last-gasp pass deflection on the final drive to seal their first Big Sky title.

2. 2013 vs. Oregon State (Corvallis)
Vernon Adams plays the best game I've ever seen from an Eagle QB and the good guys pull the upset over FBS #25 in Corvallis.

1. 1985 vs. Idaho (Moscow)
The first ever playoff win in the FCS for an independent Eastern as the Eagles overcome a 3 point deficit in the last minute and a malfunctioning Kibbie Dome heater that left the dome at over 80 degrees. The biggest "Fuck You" ever to the school the cost Eastern a spot in the Big Sky Conference.

Needless to say, I go back a long ways... Narrow misses include 2013 at home with Montana, Villanova in 2010, Idaho in 1997, and the 1989 crushing of Nevada 33-7 in Spokane.

I would have put the NC game against Delaware at #1, but didn't make it. How damn much have I been waiting for Eastern to get back to Frisco?

1997 versus Idaho at Joe Albi. Best game I ever attended. The Leons to Ogden TD connection to take the lead with about a minute left was epic...as was the defensive stand on the next series.

#1 by a mile, Delaware. #2, 2005 vs. Montana. Meyer to Vijil to ice the game was epic. #3, vs. NDSU. Snowstorm, miracle ending, greatest postgame tailgate ever.

1) vs. Delaware - winning the Naty!

2) 2010 vs. Montana 36-27 (Cheney) - The intro of the Red Turf

3) vs. UW 2011 -stupid Trufant

4) vs. Western Kentucky 1997 Quarter Finals in Spokane
- Was also at the Youngstown game....still trying to get that game out of my head.

5) vs. Montana State - 1994 (3OT)

6) vs. Sam Houston 2015 (College Football Starts Here)

7) vs. Central Washington 2010 35-32 - Battle on the Sounds

1) 1/2011 vs Delaware NC game. Experienced a great tailgate, great game, great post game at nearby bar and then finished in Baldwins hotel room(Baldwin was flying back to EWU) where Beau's wife was a gracious host.

2) 11/2002 vs Montana in Joe Albi. IMO a signature win ushering in EWU's current run in modern era. In front of over 17,000 fans(2/3 UM faithful) in Joe Albi, EWU upset Montana ending a 20+ game undefeated BSC win streak as the Defending National Champions lost to EWU 30-21. Coach of the year Joen Glenn was outcoached by EWU's Paul Wulff, Payton Award finalist John Edwards was outplayed by EWU's Josh Blankenship. EWU's Jovan Griffith ran through UM's vaulted defense for 199 rushing yards and EWU's defense held UM to 21 points making outstanding plays time and time again. EWU had arrived.

3) Mutiple games in the 70's were exciting except I don't remember if we won or who we played. Don't remember much of the 70's.

1) National Championship in Frisco 2010
2) snow game vs NDSU 2010
3) first game on Inferno vs Montana in 2010
(damn, 2010 was epic
4) Big second half comeback and overtime win vs Montana State in 2004.
5) Putting it on the griz in Missoula in 2005 for payback from the BS 2003 game in Missoula

GreatDayToBeAnEagle,
Attended all, except #1. All were enjoyable to watch. 2010 was the year I knew we must not walk out an the Eagles with time running out, QB fumbled the ball, we lost it to NDSU with time running out in 4th qtr.. Was in the lot scrapping my windshield listening to my radio, we got the ball back with 2:29 minutes 29 seconds, about 90 yards to go, we started moving the ball, I tried running back into the game, missed everything because of the ice on the ground. Finally got in and saw the catch by the WR, name can't remember, but can see him,. I think you know his folks. Think his first name Tyler? When we fell 19-0 against Delaware at the half, wasn't worried, cause I knew what we were capable of doing. What was so nice about game was watching Vice President Biden getting smaller and smaller when we started to score. Think that was a good blow by blow description? Take care. Kicked their BUTTS 20-19. Vic Wallace

My #1 was a tough decision. Been lucky to have witnessed some good EWU football.

1) 2010 Villanova Semi-finals: This was a tough decision. It was a toss up between the Oregon St. game, Montana (2010) and this game. But beating the defending national champ on the red to go 8-0 on the inaugural season on the inferno was awesome. My dad and I drove up after work without tickets, waited in line for what seemed like the first half of the first quarter and watched the eagle defense force 6 turnovers. I remember it being so cold that night but not caring as the game was exciting all the way through. Mario Brown stepping in for Taiwan Jones and delivering an awesome 104 yard game. Kaufman's run down the sideline beating out a diving Villanova defender for the TD and jumping into the endzone bleachers to celebrate to Bo Levi's touchdown pass to Greg Herd on 4th down to seal the game was one of the best throws I've ever seen.

2) 2013 Oregon State: After two straight years of coming so close to beating PAC-12 teams (UW 2011, WSU 2012) would this be the year EWU could finally pull an upset? Yes it would! We had seen glimpses of what VA could do in 2012 but the team was all his this year and man did he play. One of the best performances by a QB i had seen live. Right from the start, you knew it would be a tight game all the way through. The beavers had no answer for our offense and became a shoot out. Going up 29-17 at half and the nervousness that was setting in for beaver fans was priceless. Down 46-43 with over 4 minutes left, i remember saying to my dad that there was TOO much time on the clock and was nervous EWU would score too quickly. But we ate the clock and scored with 19 seconds left. From my vantage point, i thought the field goal was good and I started to lower my head in frustration until I saw the ref start to signal no good and i freaked out. My family, along with everyone else, went nuts; my dad and I were slappin' 5 with everyone, my mom started crying with joy. It was the best.
Also, Eag nation SHOWED UP. That was the most EWU fans I had seen for a road game and I liked how we were all seated in one section. Watching the replay of the game, you could hear EWU fans multiple times over OSU fans.

3) 2010 Montana: Man, this game....
All the build up; first home game, first conference game of the season, the Griz & the first game on the red. I remember ESPN gameday did a feature on the inferno earlier in the day. All the pressure was on EWU, maiden voyage on the turf against your biggest rival and team you hate the most. There was such an energy, a buzz at Roos that day that made for such a fun environment. All times I had watched EWU come so close to beating them and coming short was avenged that day. What a season that was!

4) 2007 Weber St: This was my first year at EWU. We had a good team, narrowly losing to Montana in Missoula by a last second field goal and Portland State. Sitting at 7-3 and an at-large playoff berth on the line, it came down to the last regular season game of the year against Weber St. It was a rainy, wet day where Matt Nichols led the Eags to a 38-16 W. Woodward was a muddy mess but my dad and I stayed the whole game to cheer on the boys. The Eags would receive an at-large and go to McNeese St and pull a 44-15 upset over the cowboys. Then went into Boone and lost to eventual national champs App. St 38-35. We HAD that game!

5) 2005 Montana St: This was my first Eastern game I ever attended. I remember being in awe thinking how cool it was to be at a college football game. Montana St brought the fans so Woodward was pretty full and if i remember correctly, we upset them 35-14. This was the game that started the fandom for my self as well as my parents.

Other candidates: Away games at Portland St in 2012 and 2014 to wrap up big sky titles and having more EWU fans than PSU fans at their own stadium. The 2011 and 2014 Husky games, especially last years as Vernon put on a clinic.

I remember that game. My girlfriend (now wife) were sitting there just drenched. We wound up leaving after halftime because she was freezing. I have really enjoyed the last two games at PSU. I agree about our fans outnumbering their fans. It's pretty much a home game for Eastern.

#1 Natty !!!

#2 Loss to App St. One of the toughest venues to get too and play in; Boone. Rough noon start eastern time. Who decides that crap anyway? Wulff and Sears move on to WSU afterwards.

#3 All the home games in 91. Not a great team, but my 1 year old daughter and I went to every home game with friends.

#1 - 1985 at Idaho in 1AA playoffs. Dick Zornes schools Dennis Erickson in the Kibbie Dome. (for younger fans, Idaho had blocked EWU's admittance into the Big Sky the previous year).

#2 - 1997 at Montana. Mike Kramer, Rex Prescott, Mike Mckenzie. Enough said.

#3 - 2012 versus Montana in Cheney. Onside kick, Vernon Adams, Brandon Kaufman.

#4 - 2010 semifinals verus Villanova.

#5 - 1997 versus Idaho in Spokane. The Vandals had moved up to the "big time" and their fans thought this game would be a freebie.

#1) 2005 @UM - Watching 20k+ Griz fans leave their stadium in silence while EWU celebrated a 2 TD win, also my first trip to Missoula, and first encounter with Everclear.

#2) 2010 vs NDSU - Most ridiculously epic game ever.

#3) 2010 vs Villanova - ESPN2 under the lights, cold as hell, against the defending National Champs, back and forth affair with a trip to the Natty on the line... amazing game.

#4) 2010 vs UM - First game on the red turf. Plus, that finish. Enough said.

#5) 2013 vs MSU - Offensive perfection against a highly ranked Bobcat squad. Watching VA shred them was beautiful.

We think very similar :? :ohno: :flash:  .

Going strictly off pleasant memories and moments frozen in time:

NDSU: Taiwan going off in the first half, back to back kickoff returns, the dark ages of the late 3rd and 4th quarters, the stop, the drive, Bill Fette. Most intriguing and captivating football game I ever watched.

Nova: Dozens of Santas in the stands, the entire crowd singing Rudolph during a timeout in the 4th quarter, Zack Johnson shutting down Sczur, the 4th down call by Beau to ice it, hugging everyone around me in the stands knowing we were going to Frisco. Simply magical.

The Chipper: Mario Brown over the shoulder catch on a wheel route to get things started. Kauf, reverse spinning, diving over the goal line, and a simple fist pump. Graham dialing up a Matt Johnson and JC Sherrit double blitz on 2nd down of the final drive. Sheer pandemonium for for an entire quarter.

2005 Montana: Up 7 with less than 5 minutes to play, 3rd in goal, Kimble goes in motion and re-sets in the backfield. An entire stadium of eyes including the Griz D follow him and then (as already mentioned) pop Vijil on a slot route to ice it.

2010 christening of the turf.

That's as close to a perfect game offensively as I have ever seen. Of course, I watched it on Root and not in person.

Last years Montana game in the regular season. It was our first EWU game at home, and we had a blast. It was the game where we had a few TD one handed catches and on defense Ronnie Hamlin #39 just tore it up. I'll always remember that game.

I have only been to EWU games vs Cal Poly so I don't have a lot to chose from, but the Triple OT game in 2011 (53-51 EWU) was exciting even though it did not end well for the Mustangs.

Spot on with 2002 game, Observer. IIRC, the single largest home game crowd in history...around 17,000. Great night.

Indeed. I didn't even get to watch that game as I was working. I had an earbud in though listening to the radio feed, which was torture.
