They can give me all the free tix they want, I still wouldn't go to Reno in March (well basically Reno anytime.) The less the fans support this half-baked idea, the sooner the Conference will be forced to change. :twocents:Born2BleedPurpleGuy said:Yyyyyuup. We'll see how it all works out. Both interviews were the same. What do they do now, make one interview and pass it around to other stations? The Big Sky Experiment. Stand by for NEWS!
They are making final arrangements....errrr, giving out thousands of free tix to make sure the arena won't look empty on TV.
So basically you are saying screw college athletics and find a new hobby then. Ok I will. :thumb:oldrunner said:A couple of points.
First, coaches have been told to repeat the company line, and coaches are usually good at this sort of thing. They are not going to say anything that will bring the conference or their own administrations down on them. They are not going to say anything that might limit the support they would like to get from their own players or fans. The conference like to trot out the coaches from Weber and Montana to make it look like one big happy family. They're not interviewing coaches from SUU or NAU. Why would they? Nobody will travel from there anyway.
Second, and I have said this before, this is not about money, this is not about attendance, this is not about moving the best team forward. This is an effort to keep poor coaches on the job, from the coach's perspective, and to have a showcase event that might get a little media attention, from the conference's perspective.
To be a success, no coaches will be fired at the end of the season and there will be a little media buzz about it.
Fans don't matter, student athletes don't matter, and fair competition doesn't matter.

One thing that sure as hell DOES matter in college athletics is $$$.
Only way this happens is to make a couple deep runs in the NCAA tournament, something that Weber is far from being able to do. And I don't see how the conference tournament has much to do with this.baller said:If so, how could we expect Weber basketball to grow into a more nationally recognized program such as Dayton, Gonzaga or Butler?
That's the thing I keep hearing from the conference but I don't see how this change in the tournament format improves the conference, and I haven't heard a good explanation from the conference. Please explain. Not trying to be a jerk, just honestly want to know how this is supposed to improve the conference.baller said:I say hooray, the BSC is stepping out, taking an aggressive step in an effort to improve.
baller said:I am probably the only poster on here that see's Reno as an attempt by the Conference and its schools to improve the tournament and bolster the image of the Conference. I personally know that Rahe has been a proponent of a neutral court for the tournament for a long time. So for anyone to say that it is just the attempt of coaches to keep their jobs is nonsense. It would be to the advantage of Rahe to keep it in the old format yet he supports the new. Does he have so much empathy for the coaches in the conference that he is willing to give up his advantage jut to help them out? I doubt it very seriously... Do you really think that finishing in the bottom three or four in the regular season and in the tournament is going to save anyone's job?
If anything, it could get them fired faster...
Time will tell if it turns out to be a good move or not. But I applaud them for trying to improve. I am shocked at those on this site who proudly pronounce their lack of support because of the decision to make the change to Reno, and encourage fans to stay away thus this lack of support causes it to be brought back to our own arena. How myopic can you get? Is this "small attitude" pervasive in Ogden? If so, how could we expect Weber basketball to grow into a more nationally recognized program such as Dayton, Gonzaga or Butler? Maybe you don't wish for this but I do! And I believe it is possible but it needs everyone's support.
I say hooray, the BSC is stepping out, taking an aggressive step in an effort to improve. I cannot find fault with that. So get off your myopic attitudes and get out and support this move. Do your part to make it a successful one that accomplishes a better standing nationally for Weber and all other Conference schools. In the name of the Big Sky Conference and every school therein I say, Amen!

You're repeating yourself like a Marco Rubio, how in the hell does the tourney in Reno advance Weber I sure as hell don't know what you're talking about
