Big Sky Changing Name ???

Evidently the Big Sky Conference is changing it's name to the Treasure State Conference beginning with the upcoming season, coinciding with the conference's new television contract with DirectV and the Root Network. What else can we expect when every single broadcast includes either Montana or Montana State. Really? And for any apologists out there who defend this crap because of the recent success of the Treasure State schools, all I can say to you is get some balls and contact the Big Sky and voice your concern. I can see showing a few more of their games because of their success, but Holy Sh...t !

You've got to be kidding me. Where were ALL the AD's when this was put together. Apparently, the Montana schools are every other teams biggest rival......I can hear the UM and MSU coaches now talking to recruits...."You know, you'll be on TV at least 6 games next season, you won't get that at PSU".

I just emailed our A.D. and asked him to come onto the forum and explain what is going on. Could it be possible that the bulk of the AD's got neutered on this one?

This just in from an Eastern Washington paper:

The Big Sky Conference has no input in the selection of Root-televised games, reiterated Jon Kasper, the conference’s assistant commissioner in charge of media relations.

“We made the decision to give this contract to Root Sports and give them control,” Kasper said. “They are paying us a good sum of money, so they get to pick what they want.”

Well I'll be, Mr Kasper, that's what Heidi Fleiss said, gosh darnit. You give me good money and I'll make em all bend over!

I'm sure the Big Sky commish wouldn't really have an issue with this. He was the AD at MSU for 11 years...

According to Torre, the big sky got paid, and let ROOT pick any games they wanted. The Big Sky should have been more of a representative to all the teams, not just 2.

More people watch those games. Unfortunately we have a small fan base. Such is the reality until we increase demand.

Good point.

If I recall, BSC TV revenue is shared, so the more money that can be squeezed from Root, the better it should be for us, even if it doesn't seem quite fair for TV exposure.

Perhaps, but I'd give up the few thousand they'll dole out for the opportunity to lure some prime recruits!
