Idk, NMSU is the only school I can think of on the BSCs radar. They also did not make a surprise post like this for a major regional university like UI. Then again, this could just be because they were struggling and options were made public way in advance. My guess is either new streaming options or instant replay. I feel like an Aziz Ansari meme is a little TOO playful for the FBS option, which would really irreversibly divide the conference into two groups- the future FBS haves and FCS have nots. They wouldn't do this in the middle of the season, atleast one would hope.

I voted for another on some inside info. Knowing how the BSC does do things in a "big way" our new commisioner, Andrea Williams, will have a huge announcement. A couple of ADs' were overheard talking while walking to the last meeting;

A split in the conference North/South for football (like basketball) and or the a championship game played at Quest Field in Seattle?

This was my thought.

A championship game means we can't play in the FCS playoffs so thats out of the equation.

I do think we split the conference though, not sure thats coming today, would be nice as long as we don't get screwed with our division.

My guess is its a new Root deal

Maybe this new commissioner can make a good move for the Big Sky (we haven't had many lately).

As associate commissioner for the Big Ten Conference, BSC Andrea Williams oversaw Football and Basketball operations and was part of the Big ten splitting into two divisions.. It would be my guess they may announce a BSC split...if not now down the road for sure.

The "BIG" announcement is a new Big Sky mobile app... The Big Sky really overhyped this one.

The rumor was that the conference would split into an East/West or Pacific/Mountain divisions. That makes more sense, when you think about it, because a North/South split would be hugely inequitable as the North would feature the teams that are substantially better.

This would be my guess when it happens:

Eastern
Idaho
Portland State
Sac State
UC Davis
Cal Poly
Southern Utah (maybe NAU)

As much as I hate that setup, I have to agree with it. Although, I do not see UI being separated from BOTH UM and ISU, for rivalry reasons.. Maybe one or the other. However, I do think EWU will be stuck with the regional schools that have far less of a tradition of football and 15% of the fan base the other division will have. blah.

So, I understand the idea of splitting the conference, and the speculation is fun. But...what's the point of splitting the conference if you don't have a championship game and how do you determine a champion? Wouldn't you essentially just be doing the same thing as now with the potential for 2-3 teams to tie and be "co-champs" except that then you would have no chance of ever determining it on the field?

Hopefully we would get 2 auto bids by splitting the conference because as of now, if you have a championship game, you can't participate in the playoffs.

I can't see them splitting Idaho and Montana up

No way would the Big Sky split up Montana and Idaho... The rivalry used to be just as big, if not bigger if you ask certain fans, than Cat/Griz.

I would tend to agree, but logistically, they might have to. I don't see them splitting up Eastern and Idaho because they're separated by 70 miles. They are a natural rival and already travel partners in basketball. At the same time, I don't see them splitting up Montana and Montana State either. But as has been mentioned previously, I think if you split this conference up by North and South, it becomes way to lopsided. It will be interesting to see what happens come 2018. Personally, I think they need to cut the fat and go down to about 10 teams.
