Big Sky Final: Weber v. North Dakota

Looking forward to the game tonight.

Huff has gotten his points in this tournament, but he has struggled a bit offensively. Despite, that this team has put together two good games. Need Huff to find his rhythm in this game. Be great if he can channel the Troy Huff that played in the Wisconsin, NDSU, and last UNC game.

The other big dilemma is how our bigs are going to hold up against Weber. Traylor and Salmonson got into alot of foul trouble against a smaller PSU team. Calcaterra has been very valuable in this tournament, but I think Traylor needs to be on the floor for 20-25 minutes in this game for the Sioux to be successful.

It is probably a good thing that Huff hasn't played that great. It has forced UND to play Balanced and team ball. I've watched every game and it has been really interesting seeing how UND has played. They shouldn't have won on Thursday but yesterday they looked unstoppable. Taylor, Nash, and Anderson looked absolutely incredible against PSU. Should be a good game tonight.

At the start of the season I really thought we would see these two going at it. These are the two best teams in the Sky. This is how a championship game should look like.

Well, what can I say? I won't yell "REBOUND THAT BALL, JOEL!" :coffee: (Berry missed that free throw(I was yelled at by three members of this forum)) or "FROZEN ROPE!" (That worked with Trez two years ago) :coffee:
You could tell North Dakota is a little tired after having played Sac, but last night they looked great against PSU, but at the same time if PSU would have made their freebies it would have been a much different game. They looked like Weber State did against East Carolina. Free throws win Championships and free throws lose Championships. PSU knows this and for sure Rahe's players should know this. :coffee:
At the end of last season I knew that this would be the Championship game. North Dakota is a force and it will be an interesting game to watch. :coffee: :coffee: :coffee: (I hoped I got one more chance to drink Sage Brush Tea... SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO GOOD!!! :coffee: :coffee: :coffee: )

bengal,

you gonna be ok tonight? looks like you have just had 9 cups of joe in one post...who ever is sitting next bengal watch out. he might need some tp for his hole bored in a liquid-tight barrel to remove contents.

this is the biggest game in UND history since anything in DI trumps non-DI. they have been in the big sky for 2 seasons now and this is their first conf title appearance. they went DI in 2008.

We've always done a reasonable job with Huff. It was Nash that really hurt us the last time we played them. The inside matchups are about a push. This game will come down to guard play and I think we match up with these guys quite well. We got the jitters out last night and this is their third game in three nights.

WSU 84 UND 79

Can't hardly wait for this game tonight but at the same time don't want the tourney to be over. That was nerve racking last night watching it unfold, having seen Weber give up leads/games too many times before. They stepped it up defensively I thought but always take their foot of the gas offensively with a lead late in the game. They can't do that again tonight or they might kill me off.

I sure hope at least 2K more fans get their butts up to the DEC and make the Senior's last game there one to remember. It's tough to beat a team three times in a season and UND held it together through crazy parity in the BSC and have earned their place in the title game, but I know Weber will get it done and be cutting nets tonight.

Reasons Weber loses:
Huff could go off and carry the team
Refs continue to be interesting
UND plays loose and gets into a good rhythm
UND's bigs have a great night
Play great perimeter defense and stop 3 point shots

Reasons Weber wins:
Home court advantage
Berry could go off and carry the team
3 point shooters get hot
Bolomboy and Tres and Hill dominate
No turnovers from a full court press (they had 0 last night)
Hitting free throws down the stretch (hit them last night)
Fresh legs (2 vs 3 games in a row)
Experience in title games may finally pay off
History - weber already has 2 double digit victories this year against UND and has never lost to them at home
Vegas has Weber as a 6 point favorite (follow the money)

Looking good for another Big Sky championship :thumb:

I am going to say Weber 82 UND 73.

North Dakota is not very good at getting back on defense. Huff likes to take lots of chances on the steal out by mid court. Lets make him pay. I think guarding Nash will be the big challenge. I like matching up Hill with him better than Bolomboy. There Bigs aren't as physical or talented than ours. I say feed Tres early and see if they can handle it. I would like to see us push it on them. They have to be getting tired, elevation in Grand Forks is 845' above sea level. We need to avoid the foul on our bigs when Huff ducks his head and drives. I hope we have some decent officials tonight.

Most BSC refs have a long way to go, to get up to decent. I have my fingers crossed that we can, at least get the three best in the BDC. If we can't, then go outside and bring in some decent refs. 75% of what the BSC has are sub par. If the BSC can't admit that then what is it that they are saying about themselves? :twocents:

Let's hope that this game doesn't come down to officiating!!!

Coach Duft mentioned on Arky's after game interview that today the team just seemed loose & confident...and played that way tonight! That's one of the best offensive performances if not the best this team has shown this year! Hope it lasts for the big Dance...GO WILDCATS!! :thumb:

Weber looked damn good tonight. Our seniors showed up and played. They were the foundation under the teams championship game victory. Trez was HUGE!

Awesome game! That's been a long time coming. I loved everything about tonight, with the exception of a couple of clown refs. They looked loose and like a team on a mission. I don't think we saw shooting like the first quarter all season; it was phenomenal. Tres was a beast! I'm so happy for for the Seniors, it was a hoot watching them celebrate. The crowd was decent sized and vocal. Dame being there was just the icing.

I'm watching the ESPNU recording right now. The broadcast is good and Dame's time talking on the broadcast is such great, positive exposure for Weber State. I don't know how many people are going to be catching the Big Sky on ESPNU, but those who did got to hear from a phenomenal athlete but as importantly, a phenomenal person. How many NBA All-Stars would return to their Alma Mater (that is barely on the map) and go out of their way to be overly supportive of the school, program, and be so cordial to all the fans bugging him for pictures, autographs, etc. He is really helping make Rahe's recruiting job a little easier.

Congrats to the 'cats, Big Sky Champs (has such a nice sound to it) and good luck at a 15 vs Arizona-- battle of the 'cats!

People can say I might be wearing purple colored glasses, but where did they get our attendance numbers from??? no way was thier only 5,200 in our semi final game and only 6,200 in the championship game, aside from the one and a half sections on the west side of the arena the place was pretty full saturday. Easily 8,000

Won't comment about your glasses, but the numbers announced for the championship game looked accurate...we were seated in row 10, section u and the comments around us were wow, look at all the empty seats behind the two/three sections behind both baskets above the lower 10-12 rows...disappointing! Now as for the semi-finals, I think you've got a good point there. But hey, they scan the tickets at the entrances + add in the odds & ends for passes BUT there's NO adding on the season ticket sales this time (bodies present or not)! :twocents: Really expected more fans to be there (thru the "eyeball test"). :ohno:

Have missed your posts, Wildcat, always enjoy them, and can remember that crystal ball of yours worked for you last year in predicting the attendance...did you break it?

Needed to recharge it, lots of home games last year that drained the power :-D

Thanks Wildcat...the only thing I'll finish this thread with is that whatever the actual attendance was for the Big Sky semi-final/championship games, it's a real shame that it wasn't in the 9K or 10K range!! I personally did not expect a near sell-out as some posters did, but it was disappointing in several ways on attendance from other schools & local. :twocents:
