Big Sky Margin per Victory

it is pretty amazing some of the scores we have seen in big sky thus far (6 games in). we can say the big sky is down this year minus the griz but still, we are out scoring these teams by numbers i do not think i have ever seen. 2009 was 15-1 so when they were 6-0 they were winning by 9 ppg.

we are winning big sky games by an average 17.2 points per win. 2003 was a very dominant team, 14-0, at this point they were winning games by 11 points per win.

we have nau and sac at home. if we play our A game which is great offense (averaging better than 50% FG) and awesome D we could really put away NAU on thursday. nau is 6-43 in ogden and sac is 1-18.

What do you think will be higher this week? The average winning margin or number of students on their feet in the student section?

has it really been bad this yr and why?

to defend them if i was a student i could say i believe nau is the first conf game of the year with school back in session. is that correct? didnt we have a good section for byu?

i hope they show up this week, especially on sat, no reason to have a weak crowd on a sat. evn though it is sac, i hope to see 7,000 crowd. with an nau win we would be 7-0, thats territory we are rarely in!!!

It may have looked like there was a lot of students at the BYU game but there were a lot of YBU fans sitting in those sections. I am hoping for a good student turnout but that would require work by those on campus to get the job done.

the easiest thing i can think of is flyers at UV. its easy, takes about 1 hr. ive done it before but its been a while since i graduated.

if half of UV shows up the section is full!

3 man project:
1. make flyers with 2 friends
2. print flyers
3. walk over to the UV buidlings
4. bring purplefogdog since he is a strong brute force attacker
5. dont worry about asking for permission from an RA to enter each building unless you live there or have time to ping an RA
6. have purplefog rip open locked door to each building -
7. put one flyer under each door of each male apartment.
8. knock on all female doors and hand over flyer so you can meet hotties
9. ur done

meeting the ladies alone is well worth the time to do this. can i throw a coin in the duck pond and wish to be 20 and help make the flyers for this week's games?

I work with a guy who is a WSU fan and attends many of our games. His oldest son is a current student at USU. He said that there are student representatives, at registration and orientation, handing out schedules and hyping USU athletics attendance. He said there are also reps in every building and around campus on game days, doing the same. He said that it is a big deal at USU because they make it a big deal. He and I don't understand why that isn't happening at WSU. It will be a big deal when WSU decides to make it a big deal. Until then we have apathy and, inactive, dead a$$ students. It really doesn't have to be this way.

I have heard all of the excuses on why it is this way. I'm not buying any of them. These excuses are like arm pits. Everyone has a couple, but they all stink!

LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL!! PURPLEFOGDOG HAD BIG MUSCLES BACK IN THE DAY!!

NOW REGARDING THE ATTENDENCE AT WSU GAMES... IT DOESN'T MATTER WHAT IS DONE AT USU, UTAH, OR BYU, NOTHING IS GOING TO CHANGE. IF SOMETHING IS DONE IT MIGHT HELP FOR ONE OR TWO WEEKS BUT AFTER THAT IT WILL GO BACK TO HOW IT IS. IT WILL NEVER CHANGE... WE TRIED WHEN I WAS A STUDENT AND WE DID A GOOD JOB, BUT THERE WILL NEVER BE ANOTHER BENGALHATER!

That is why it can not be just a STUDENT initiative. It has to be an institutional priority. It has to have money and planning behind it. It needs to be constant. It needs to be ongoing, year after year. And, when the administration thinks that they have done enough, because the seating is full and won't hold any more, then they will be about half way there and should double their efforts. This isn't the STUDENT's faul. The burden falls squarely on the shoulders of the administration and the Athletic Dept. :coffee:

I hope that the new prez comes in and lights a fire under somebody. The STUDENTS are missing out, on what they are paying for, and don't even know it. They are getting only about 3/4 of the University experience, and don't know what they are missing. :yikes:

USU has enormous community support as well. (it doesn't hurt attendance one bit by making sure they win every home game either) I am sure it took several years to get it where they want it. My sales territory takes me to LOLGAN twice a month and in every acct I visit I see USU shirts on employees as well as customers. They are doing something right in LOLGAN and we should tap into that somehow.
I have suggested many times that every small business in Weber/Davis County be offered the family passes for employees and customer incentives. If they buy a certain number of family passes they could get purple Co. shirts with the Co. name, Wildcat logo/awesome slogan. We HAVE to be more visible. I know the profit margin is lower on the family passes but the profit margin is a LOT lower with empty seats in the stadium. Is this such a difficult concept to wrap your brain around? Heck, I'd even volunteer to go out and call on some of those businesses just to get the word out that WSU is serious about putting fannies in the seats.

Come on Benglehater, you can't say the student sections the last 2-3 years did not give you guys a run for your money. I think what your trying to say is that even one or two students can have a big impact.

Much of the magic we have had the last few seasons is the doing of just a few passionate students. Unfortunately, many or them have graduated. I'm a firm believer that a successful college basketball program is really all about the student section. Ya, its nice to have butts in the seats, but players and the community like to see a loud passionate student section. Its only takes a few students willing to start cheers and get everyone loud as long as they are persistent. It only takes a few students to pass out flyers on campus and on cars. I hoping some freshmen or sophomores read this and realize how big of a difference they can make in an awsome basketball program.

Hmmm...interesting thread. Catcat and I have been involved in a number of ventures (usually Bengalhater had to be dragged, beaten, and pulled into helping, working never was one of his strong suits; looool). When we were students, we had by far the most successful student section seen at Weber since the early 80s. Granted having an undefeated team, a somewhat healthy Greek System, Student Athletes willing to help and participate, excellent student leaders, Ambassadors who actually attended institutional events and participated in spreading the message, and finally an athletics department willing to get off their butts and do something. Really made things happen. I spent hours at the Bell Tower with DJ Stryde, Catcat, Bengalhater, Brother Kyle, and a number of other student leaders spreading the message. We had all areas of campus represented: Athletes, WSUSA, Student Alumni, Greek System, and Mountain Dew efficiados/Institute fruit. It was fun and as Catcat stated, we met a lot of babes and cool peeps on campus. Last year, I decided to take a day off work and help a couple friends get the word out for the bracketbuster. I was disgusted!! Student leaders wouldnt' help, the SAA leadership wouldn't support, and nobody seemed to care. Like Oldrunner said, it's an institutional issue not a personality issue.

First and foremost...athletics has interns (AKA...Student representatives who could do a bit more), there are a lot of students getting $$$ to do things on campus that aren't doing it (WSUSA and SAA). Finally, student athletes could help out a bit more. When the football team wanted to get fans to the games, only remember a couple of times in the past 1994 is a great example, they got fans to the games. It has to start with Athletics. Sorry fellas, you guys aren't cutting it.

i partially disagree. between 2008-2012 we have had some good student sections that i never saw as a student (02-06). maybe not every game but lately it has been really good. appparently this yr has been not good based on what i read on here. i have only been to one home game and it was southwest baptist high of the ozarks during the holidays so it was the 2nd lowest attended home game.

i do agree with ur point, a lot of good student involvment back then helped get people to show up and many of you are saying that is missing in 2013. i think wsu doesnt care to focus on the students since they do not provide immediate finanical suppport to the program. of course they will after they graduate though. but a long term investment could be another thread i think. you guys are focusing on how to get more students to the games right now.

I cant remember seeing this few students since Cravens last year as coach (2006). The main difference is that we were in last place that year and the program was in turmoil. This year we are in first place and a pretty fun team to watch. I haven't noticed the empty seats in the front of the student section the last little while, so hopefully they quit doing that stupid wrist band thing. What I have noticed is the number of students standing and being loud is way down.

Its pretty hard to believe that the best rookie in the NBA was on our team and in our arena last year. We had a hard time getting the place more than half full most games. What a missed opportunity by the students and the community.

We have a great team, facility and coach. I just don't get why there is not more support, especially when you can get in for free as a student.

Most of the students could care less than athletics at Weber, all they care about is going to class to get their degree. When they get asked about their college experience, they say it sucked because they didn't make the initiative to go to any of the extracurricular activities.
