Congrats to QB Jake Dunniway, named Big Sky Offensive Player of the Week for his performance against Northern Arizona last Saturday!

Certainly worthy. My vote (worthless though it may be) would have gone to Cameron Skattebo. I was REALLY impressed with his performance Saturday night....

Thank god you don’t nominate for us (the SIDs nominate each week for all POTW positions across all Big Sky sports, if you didn’t know)

Cameron had a good game. But that is lunacy. Jake started 18-for-18 and we were in good shape before Cameron even really got going.

I never really understood the lack of confidence in Dunniway. He has succeeded at every level he has played, even here at Sac St last year in a start vs NAU. Gerat kid with great talent! Glad we are all seeing it first hand now! Go Hornets!!

The lack of confidence was based on the limited experience he had coming into the season and the big shoes to fill left by Thomson. Dunniway has lived up to the task and this POTW is well deserved. He continues to improve and I think the best has yet to be seen from him.

 :notworthy: :thumb:

For me, I think the way the season started with the 2-QB system didn’t allow for Jake to get into a rhythm and shine. Clearly the system is working better now and Jake has adapted to it. Though I’m still not a fan of it long term.

Also, I saw Jake play at St. Mary’s numerous times and was never wowed. Good player, but I clearly didn’t see his full potential.

I’m more than happy to be proven wrong. He’s been getting better every week.

I also suspect Coach Taylor has something to do with his development, as he’s been among the top QB coaches for quite a long while. Every single QB he mentored at Folsom earned D1 Scholarships.

And he clearly helped Gage Gubrid and Kevin Thomson to improve their careers, as both won Big Sky POTY awards, and now Jake looks to be benefitting from Coach Taylor’s tutelage too.

Whatever the magic formula of talent and coaching is, it seems to be working well.

Agree completely. It has been a lot of fun. And I’m very happy for Jake who stuck it out behind Thomson then beat out a deep and talented QB room to get this opportunity.

Also, I neglected to mention Bobby Fresques, which was a major oversight. He, along with Coach Taylor, have done a phenomenal job with the QB’s both in HS and while a Sac State.
