Big Sky Predictions - Vote Here!

Who will win the Big Sky in 2008? ::)

It seems to me that Weber State, Northern Arizona, Montana, Montana State and Eastern Washington could all have a chance.

I am impressed by Mac's program management at Weber State and think that he will at least get WSU into the top tier of teams. :)

Since I am a die-hard Wildcat partisan, I am giving Weber my vote in the poll, but I think that Montana and Eastern Washington at home and Northern Arizona on the road will be tough games!

8-) Here are my pre-Spring Football predictions, subject to many revisions in the long boring five months between now and the 2008 season:

Eastern Washington 7-1
Weber State 7-1
Northern Arizona 6-2
Montana 6-2
Montana State 4-4
Portland State 2-6
Idaho Sate 2-6
Sacramento State 1-7
Northern Colorado 1-7

EXTRA! EXTRA! Weber State makes a run at the Big Sky and goes to the FCS playoffs in 2008! :D

In 2007 a talented young Wildcat team out-gained conference opponents in the air and on the ground, but floundered in the red zone and committed more mistakes in terms of both penalties and turnovers against those same opponents. The mistakes were reflected on the scoreboard and resulted in a mediocre season record.

In 2008, with a large number of returning starters including 10 all conference honorees, and a superb recruiting class including several key transfers, the Wildcats should move to the top tier of the Big Sky, by improving in several key statistical categories:

The more seasoned 2008 squad will commit fewer mistakes in the new year, and climb from the bottom tier to the middle tier or beyond in both turnover differential and penalties. With the acquisition of a kicker, WSU will also jump from dead last to the top third in both KO yardage and net yards on KO, and improve from the bottom third to the top third in red zone scoring conversions. With key athletes returning and new athlete recruits, the coverage team should be better able to take advantage of deep KOs and punts to gain better field position. The improved field position will provide an opportunity for a good defense to become a dominant defense, as well as provide more scoring opportunities for the already well balanced, potent and possession-oriented offense, which will progress from the middle of the pack to the top drawer of the Big Sky.

Mac is not building flash. He is carefully building a championship.

Weber plays both Montana and Eastern Washington at home and will take at least one of those games. Northern Arizona on the road will be tough, but if Weber manages to top Montana early in the season, the Weber-Eastern Washington game at the end of the season could shape up as the conference championship.

You heard it here first! 8-)

I think WSU will be good next year, but they won't even come close to beating Hawaii or Utah. WSU has NEVER beaten an FBS school in our present time. I think WSU may muster anywhere from 6-8 wins but UU and UH will torch WSU! Especially Hawaii, if PSU can score 67 on WSU in the R&S imagine what Hawaii will do, also former WSU RB coach Gerke is now at Hawaii, so WSU will come in with no surprises!

WSU will be good next season but don't get your hopes up to high, or you will be sorely disappointed.

PSUVIKING, Last time I checked you don't have to beat Hawaii or Utah to win the Bigsky. Notice the title of this thread, it's called BIG Sky predictions. And just so you know, Gerke was our O-line coach not the runningbacks coach. Vikings, enjoy your 1 and only showing in the NCAA's, oh wait you guys are already out, and yes your Vikings may have scored 67 points on us, but you still lost.

I'm pretty sure that Weber will be good next season. Oh PSU Viking... Weber did beat Nevada a couple times in the 90's, after they had left the Sky... Granted they weren't very good then, but they were in the WACK. Yes, beating Hawaii and Utah will be huge, virtually impossible, but hey it can be done. I'm hoping for a Conference Championship, and unlike some previous years, it is attainable this season.
