Big Sky Predictions

Before conference officially starts, make your predictions right now of how the conference season will go. It pains me not to put us first, but I almost put us behind the Griz. As much as it pains me to put BJ and UNC as the favorite, I think their preseason body of work is the best.

1. Northern Colorado
2. Weber State
3. Montana
4. Eastern Washington
5. North Dakota
6. Idaho State
7. Northern Arizona
8. Montana State
9.Portland State
10. Sac State
11. Southern Utah

As much I wish we were the top team, we just are not and not even close. I love Weber hoops almost as much as I love my son, but we just are not good this year. At least not yet. I wish I knew what happened? Maybe conference we figure it out and win it, but I don't want to get my hopes up. Here is how I see it ending up.

1. Northern Colorado
2. Montana
3. Eastern Washington
4. Weber State
5. North Dakota
6. Northern Arizona
7. Idaho State
8. Montana State
9. Sacramento State
10. Portland State
11. Southern Utah

From my vantage point right now:
1. Northern Colorado
2. Montana
3. Weber State
4. Northern Arizona
5. Eastern Washington
6. North Dakota
7. Idaho State
8. Montana State
9. Portland State
10. Sacramento State
11. Southern Utah

Interesting rankings. A lot different than at the start of the season. What went wrong? Are we not as good as we thought we were? Is it talent? I keep reading that Rahe is a top recruiter. Is it X's and O's?

Lilliard has been gone two years now. What is the future of Weber State Basketball?

I think this team has buttloads of talent, I think this teams biggest problem is lack of team chemistry.

Getting this thing going with the kind of schedule we have had, so far, is like trying to role on square tires. From here on out the schedule gets a lot better. I still think we will win this thing.

WSU
UND,
UM,
UNC,
Everyone else, in no particular order. Does it really matter?

It's a young and inexperienced team. Talented, but inexperienced. I think they'll contend for the Big Sky title. But next year and the year after, watch out. They will be good. Team chemistry is an issue, but that may be because four of the top eight players are freshmen and three of those are brand new to the program this year. Go 3-5 in a very awkward and stressful pre-season schedule and everybody is ready to throw in the towel on a very talented team.

To all the naysayers I have just one question: Is your character that of Wildcat fans or that of Ute fans??? :question: http://www.bigskyfans.com/wildcats/posting.php?mode=smilies&f=2#" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Asks a fan of Southern Utah

Seriously though, accepting reality isn't a question of character. This isn't the team I hoped they would be nor the team they were predicted to be. I can see the glass for what it is: half-empty (disappointed) and half-full (hopeful). I'm still a huge fan; I'm still a paying customer. There's always a chance they'll pull it together and become the team I hoped they were, but by the looks of things they won't and lucky for me I won't be any more disappointed.

The pre-season "very awkward and stressful" ??? How so?? Just because Coach Rahe purposely tries to schedule the toughest pre-season opponents? I say good for him, it prepares them better for conference play (just disagree that he downplays their importance for ratings/respect). Not getting invited to a pre-season tourney; not getting a quality D1 team to come play in the DEC; weather Xing a game? It's called REALITY!!! Some of us are commenting on the present REALITY of things! NOT throwing in the towel, NOT throwing Coach under the bus, NOT disagreeing that the talent & potential exists !! Don't misjudge critical comments as traitor "naysayers"! Helps to take off the purple colored glasses and accept the current reality of things to calm too high of expectations sometimes. ALL of us fans are hoping things go swell & the basketball (&football) WILDCATS are GREAT! GREAT ! GREAT ! as the mantra says! Some of us just aren't always optimists as is desired by some posters. It's called REALITY.

1.Northern Colorado
2.Weber
3.Montana
4.North Dakota
5.Eastern Washington
6.Portland State
7.Sacramento State
8.Montana State
9.Northern Arizona
10.Idaho State
11.Southern Utah

I predict a Championship game of Weber vs Northern Colorado coming down to the wire in Greeley. I hope I'm wrong and we host!

I have been very critical, because I expect more, and the redundant excuses are tired and worn, however I am not short sighted. We will win this thing. (I would have gone with Montana as a lock for 3 or 4 until I saw the last 2 minutes of the win at Idaho. Tinkle worked wonders with the clock, & Jamar is a clutch punk, & Dunn reminds me of Cherry.

1. WSU
2. Montana
3. EWU
4. NCU Bears
5. N. Dakota
6. ISU
7. Sac
8. PSU
MSU, NAU, SUU

I would have put UM about 3 and WSU 4 but strength of coaching and (winning) experience bumps them up. I hope Weber get's it together and makes a run at hosting the playoffs but they've done nothing so far to make me believe they will  .

1. UM
1. UNC
3. WSU
4. EWU
4. UND
6. ISU
7. NAU
8. MSU
9. SAC
10. PSU
11. SUU

Who else is in before the BSC really gets going, beginning tomorrow?

It's looking like the only consensus is that SUU sucks, bad.

:thumb: I agre 100% with this post!

Not really a prediction, but a ranking just based on the non-conference:

1 UNC
2 UM
3 EWU
4 WSU
5 MSU
6 PSU
7 ISU
8 SAC
9 NAU
10 UND
11 SUU

Usually not into predictions, but here's mine:

1 UM
2 UNC
3 WSU
4 EWU
5 UND
6 MSU
7 NAU
8 ISU
9 SAC
10 PSU
11 SUU

Hope I'm wrong.

About SUU?

Curious: what is Stevens Henager's nickname?

I'm fairly sure that Steven Henager's does not have a basketball team. If they did, they would have been on the UU schedule.

And who was the culprit that messed with some poster's profiles??...was that AJ?? Let's call Utah's AG about it and throw another matter on his plate load. I'm sure it will get top priority.

Oh, on the BSC predictions, I've got to hand it to 'SWWeathercat' smart! You showed a couple of ties for #1 & #4 huh?...allowing yourself more leeway, smart!

May the Big Sky fun and games begin & bring joy to fans everywhere, well...at least in Ogden!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :-D
