Big Sky Recruiting Review

I've heard that there may be a blog on Weberwall some time in the future on this subject, but one never knows...Anyway, with the signing of Franklin Session Weber ended its recruitment season. Automatically, one has to assume that this is Rahe's best recruitment class since he was named the head coach. Arguably, Rahe's teams have always, and will continue to be, hard-nosed, blue collar players, who are tough, classy, and understand the concept of team ball. Regardless of these facts, the Wizard has never seen his teams are being overtly talented, but after the additions from last year, and now the additions from this recruiting class, Weber's basketball team might just have added another label....TALENTED.
Granted, Montana and Northern Colorado both had exceptional recruiting classes, especially Montana with the additions of Hutchinson (C 6-9 240, ESPN 85), Will Cherry, and Thurman Woods (Cherry and Woods, on Caliprep.com combined stars added up to Damian Lillards allotment of stars, soooo who knows if they really are as good as they are being billed to be). No matter though, Weber might have the edge over all the other Big Sky schools (with regards to the State Schools...Weber recruited for speed, toughness, experience, and athleticism...Weber compares strongly with the rest, even though all the other state schools were looking primarily for height). Nobody else was able to create the depth that Weber was able to achieve with this class.
In all honesty, Weber State fans should be extremely excited for the upcoming basketball season. This recruiting class is by far the strongest seen in Ogden since 1998 (Eddie Gill and Harold Archenaux), combined with a young, experienced, and accomplished team, Weber should be at the top for many years to come.
Here is my disclaimer: The top six teams in the conference each have strengthened their teams, all the Big Sky teams have improved drastically. Look for the Sky to climb a bit higher next fall in Conference RPI. Weber might have the best recruiting class, but that doesn't mean that Weber will automatically win the conference again. Idaho State, Portland State, Northern Colorado, Montana, and Montana State all could vie for the conference crown. Northern Arizona, with Baldy at the helm will always be tough to beat, and could pull some surprises. Eastern and Sac aren't out of contention, especially Eastern. However, the Eagles will really depend upon Valentine and White Power for success.

Big Sky Recruitment Power Rankings
1. Weber State
2. Montana
3. Northern Colorado
4. Portland State
5. Northern Arizona
6. Sacramento State
7. Idaho State
8. Eastern Washington
9. Montana State

MSU and ISU were really only looking to sign one or two players total. Kal Bay pg for ISU left the team suddenly this spring, which caused some serious heart burn for Joe O'Brien, but the bengals should be fine nonetheless, with Soph Sherrod Baldwin and a JC transfer at point. MSU lost Mbunga -a huge loss- but their only one. MSU returns a team that is full of talent and experience, getting to the Big Sky Tourny Championship really should help the bobcats confidence next season. Kirk Earlywin knows what to get for success in the Big Sky, a good backcourt, but he is losing the recruiting wars right now. He has good guards, but right now each Sky team is getting great guards. Sacramento definitely improved its stock with some key signees. NAU...well...Adras doesn't get the best, but he sure does know how to turn coal into diamonds.

I don't know if I should be more excited for football or bball next year...

With Lillard being the top recruit for WSU over these 4 yrs, overall you gotta pick 2010 as the best incoming class overall. Lookin very good!!

With all this depth that we normally don't have the next 2 seasons should be really good ones.
