Big Sky Recruits 2014-2015 Season

Just noticed that Calaen Robinson, once a highly sought after recruit for the Cats, transferred from Arizona State to Potland State. Interesting move for Robinson. Too bad...I could see Omar Sherman doing the same thing in two years. Funny how these major programs promise the sun, moon, and stars to these kids and a lot of the time limits their progression and isn't the best fit for the player. I hope Robinson succeeds in Portland and ends his career satisfied and with a degree.

As for the rest of the Sky...it is looking more and more like the majority of teams are done recruiting, and that their rosters for the 2014-2015 season are locked into place. IMO, the best classes are Weber, SAC, UNCO, and NAU. I think UM's is above average, along with Eastern's and for MSU, the Bobs; especially for a new coach. Idaho's isn't bad either.

Robinson only averaged 1.6 ppg last year for ASU. Still a good pick up for PSU. They will have 4 Senior guard type players next year so picking up this guy is good. I was thinking we might see some sort of a D1 transfer come in, but its looking like the coaches are going to hold on to that opening for the 2015 class. Assuming McKay Cannon comes in next year from his mission and no players transfer after next season we wouldn't have any openings because we only have one SR next year in Hayek. If we only have that one spot available I would want a PF. I like how our roster shapes up for next year. We will be young, but athletic. I believe we have enough upper class players to say we are not totally young. If our 2 JC guys can come in and contribute, then we will be right up there in the hunt for the title. 5.5 months to go.

I haven't been able to fully evaluate the 50 or so new players entering the league, but I have had a chance to quickly review their information. Without a doubt the players choosing Weber State are far and away the class of the conference. Don't get me wrong, there are some really good players coming into the Sky. NAU keeps getting top notch transfers to go to Flagstaff. In Greeley Hill continues to recruit talented athletes, he just can't keep them all on the same page consistently, and Katz has, perhaps, his best class since he started at Sac. Eastern, under Hayford, has been rebuilding and patiently building their program, which will be the most experienced next season in the league.

YET...the players coming to Weber are far better overall and together than any other team in the league. Out of all transfers and JUCO recruits Golden and Coston are the best in the league. Golden is a dynamic athlete who can score at will, either from outside or getting to hoop. We have three freshmen who are highly athletic, with great potential, and have the chance to leave the school as some of the best. The Sky really needs to be worried right now. And we haven't even started talking about the returning Cats. YIKES!!
