We will have a series of feature stories on the men's and women's tournaments over the next four days as well as game stories out of each game. We will have a feature on Ethan Telfair later this week.

Really enjoyed your story about newcomers in the league, Colter. I've been following Big Sky basketball since 1979 and I don't remember there being many years when the league has produced so many good, young players.

On another topic, could you interview Fullerton or Loghry about what the NCAA rules allow as far as creating a new FBS football conference? In light of the Sun Belt decision to boot Idaho there has been a lot of conflicting information floating around about whether the Big Sky, or a group of Big Sky schools could simply create a new FBS league to accommodate Idaho and other schools like the Montanas who might feel ready to move up. Someone on the Idaho board posted two NCAA rules that appear to make that extremely difficult. Would be good to know what the reality is. Tnx.

Thought that was a good recap of the game. The pictures were quite good too. Another interesting thing was the comments from the UNC coach about her team. I don't quite get the comments about "That’s what we inherited when we walked in here. I think this offense can work if you have people who can play off the bounce better. We don’t quite have the players.” Kind of threw her kids under the bus in my opinion (or at least the kids Jamie recruited).

Especially since those inherited players won her 22 games last season, including a 3 game run in the post season WNIT. Unless she was misquoted, and I doubt she was, I'm not very impressed.

Much has been made about the rule changes and the way games have been officiated in the Big Sky this season. Here's a full breakdown of fouls drawn, fouls committed and free throw attempts for all 12 men's teams in the Big Sky plus reaction from players and coaches.

It sounds like Ethridge wants to up her team's tempo a bit. Jaime White liked to play an absurdly slow pace. Even Montana & Idaho State looked run & gun compared to White's NoCo teams.

edit - I may have misinterpreted her comments. She also apparently had a line about her players not being physical enough or something. She's probably right judging from their crappy rebounding margin & terrible free-throw attempt numbers (11 fta per game? :? ), but it does seem odd for her to say it publicly. Not really related, but I also find it odd that nobody on their team averaged double figures this year.

Good story, Colter. ISU's large foul differential and Telfair's ability to get to the line and make FTs are two huge factors in ISU's turnaround this season.

Idaho and North Dakota the only Big Sky schools with both the men and women still playing.

We'll see what happens tomorrow.

As far as ISU vs. UND, since the Fighting Hawks joined the Big Sky they are 6-2 against Seton and the Bengals. Five of those six wins have come by five points or less. Maybe playing on a neutral floor for the first time will help things. ISU has never beaten UND in Grand Forks.

ISU is 6-6 in games decided by four points or less this season. UND is 9-2 in games decided by five points or less this season and have won 14 of their last 16 games. They won both games this year against ISU by three points in each contest.

Colter:

Nice story but two corrections are needed.

Tressa Lyman was the Big Sky Volleyball MVP two years ago not this past Fall.

Grace Kenyon tore her ACL a month before the season not a month into it.
