The Big Sky Conference Men’s Basketball “Game of the Week” returns to Altitude Sports & Entertainment for a second straight season, and the Portland State Vikings will be featured four times in 2008-09. The conference officially released its TV schedule today.
Altitude will televise nine regular-season Big Sky games starting on Sunday, Jan. 4, and continuing until Sunday, March 1. Those games will air in the Portland area on Comcast Sports Net, channel 37.
The defending Big Sky Conference champions Vikings will appear on CSN on Jan. 4 at Northern Arizona, Jan. 18 at Northern Colorado, February 1 at Montana State, and Feb. 8 at home against Sacramento State. All games will air at 1:05 p.m. PT.
In addition to the Altitude/Comcast games, Portland State can be seen on Fox Sports Net on Dec. 23 when the Vikings travel to Gonzaga. Other games that may possibly be televised, but have not been made official, include: games at the Great Alaska Shootout, Nov. 26-29, and PSU at Washington, Dec. 14.
Altitude’s coverage of Big Sky basketball won’t end with the regular-season. For the second straight season, the network will televise semifinal action from the men’s championship on Tuesday, Mar. 10, with games slated for 6 and 8 p.m. Mountain. ESPN2 will air the Big Sky Championship game on Mar. 11.
As a result, Portland State can be seen a minimum of five times, and possibly as many as 10 times on broadcast television in Portland, as well as around the Pacific Northwest and Mountain time zone.
Portland State was 23-10 in 2007-08, winning the Big Sky Conference regular season and tournament championships. The Vikings made a first-ever appearance in the NCAA Division I tournament, losing to eventual national champion Kansas. PSU has a 14-game Big Sky winning streak entering the 2008-09 season.
