It may be a bit more exciting when the chances of losing are greater, but not a lot, for me. I was just as happy watching Black Hills State play us as I was watching USU play us. I see value in playing hard fought games and also in playing in blowout games. As a Weber State fan, I mostly care about what we are doing and not about the other team.
Call me crazy, but that is how I feel.

As far as being beneficial to the development of our team, I think that a mix of game types is preferable. You want to play teams who pressure you and try to take you out of your rhythm, you need to learn to fight through it. You want to play teams who are better than you, to gage where you are and where you need to grow to. You also want to play teams who are beneath your talent level, to help your team develop its rhythm and depth. I don't think that I would want my team's schedule to be too heavy into any one of those three types of games in the preseason. Of course, in any given year, as a mid major, I would want to have 1 or 2 money games. Certainly, no more than 2. More than 2 and you run the risk of your team developing a losing attitude and giving up on you early.SWWeatherCat said:oldrunner said:I feel like I am in the minority here, but I don't go to these games to watch the other team. There are "hard fought games" and games "when the chances of losing are greater" but games against teams of this talent aren't remotely close to either. Beating a high school caliber team by 52 does much less for your team than losing one at home-- maybe to a team you shouldn't-- or getting whacked by 30 to one of the best teams in the country. As for what I prefer to watch, it isn't to see our guys drain open 3s and make layups all night long. I could care less about our opponents or specific players but I am very interested in how our team competes against equal or better talent. I do see value in getting PT for the bench but see much more value in getting those players in the mix one at a time for meaningful minutes that will truly help them and team get better. Playing our less talented or inexperienced players against lesser talent may give them some confidence but does not make them better. These players are blessed with athletic talents that I want to pay to see tested and find out how they stack up, not watch them practice against sure bets.

Normally I don't need an excuse to go to a Weber game, I just had a football hangover and wasn't really intrested in the basketball game last night
Fresno beat MSU 80-67. I think they have a good squad there. It should be a good game.UtahPirate said:I think the value of this game will play out over the next three road games. On both ends of the court the team seemed to want to make an early statement that came from three close games in the Bahamas -- and two losses. Hopefully it helped us get better and will provide a boost in confidence. I'm excited to see how well we perform against Fresno -- it may be the most winnable of the next three.
