BOBBY HAUCK

Just read this on ESPN.com's Forde's Dash - http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/columns/story?columnist=forde_pat&page=dash0908&sportCat=ncf

"The Bum (19) of the half-year is:

A. Falcon Heene's dad.

B. Whoever invented and distributed the rumor that Jon Gruden is a "done deal" to Louisville and Steve Kragthorpe has already told his team he's done. Um, no.

C. Bobby Hauck, Montana coach. Nobody likes a bully, and that's what Hauck has been to an easy target -- the student paper at the school. Hauck has retaliated at a story in the paper, The Kaimin, about an alleged assault of a student by two football players. He has publicly belittled its reporters, refused to answer questions from the paper and the players have followed suit by declining to comment to Kaimin staffers. The paper responded by printing its GameDay section with a focus on the opponent, Cal Poly -- pretty much its only recourse.

Dash answer: C."

Hauck is classless as always. He's picking fights with the UM Student Newspaper? Thats absolutely pathetic. Whos the Adult again? Whos supposedly the professional? Whos the person that is look to as an example and mentor? WOW...way to go Bob.

Man, someone in this conference has got to beat UM. Hope it is Weber. But if not, UM will eventually go on the road in the playoffs and lose, just like every other year. I don't know what is more impressive: UM's playoff streak, or their lack of a national championship streak. Surely when it comes to the nation as a whole, UM is a poser. They would finish in the middle of the pack in the Colonial.

I love the UM student paper, best nickname given to Bobby ever!!

You mean the "gaping vagina of the highest order" nickname? That nickname wasn't given by the UM student paper, rather by the author the Deadspin article.

Boy, don't get on the bad side of the press! Hauck's been called a "gaping vagina of the highest order" and the "bum of the half-year". This whole situation sounds a little like the whole Bryant Eteuati thing last year. Except, everyone involved handled that situation with a little more class than Hauck has.

i don't mean everyone, but i do remember a lot of people saying the signpost should not have written negative stuff about wsu football. I thought it was awesome that a student paper broke the story before any of the major papers did.

Montana was recruiting 'The Beast' hot and heavy, they wanted to offer him an official visit and they were going to trip him to Missoula...until Coach Chad stepped in and told the Hauck boys, 'Don't f--- with my Hawaii recruits'....and the rest..........is history. Pretty funny if you ask me.....

On a side note, they did get a DB from Hawaii, who blended with the team so well, he got charged with felonious assault and was kicked off of the team...........Go Grizz.....

I found the articles on The Kaimin's web site, so I'll provide some links. Here's The original article that brought the incident to light:

http://www.montanakaimin.com/index.php/news/news_article/allegations_against_griz_football_players_surface/

The most telling quote from this article comes from the assaulted student's father (who is reportedly a big grizlee fan).

“I had lengthy discussions with Bobby Hauck, and I felt that he handled it as well or better than I would have gotten from anybody under the same circumstances,” said Kevin McCarthy, Grady’s father.

McCarthy refused to elaborate on how Hauck said he would punish the players.

“I promised Bobby Hauck I would not talk about it,” he said.

Hauck even has the victim's father keeping his not-so-secret secret quiet. Good work Bobby! Why mislead people and feign class when your true character is so apparent anyway?

Here are some other articles about the issue:

http://www.montanakaimin.com/index.php/opinion/opinion_article/kaimin_not_able_to_effectively_report_on_griz_football/

I think that this is really funny. However, the first and real issue is the assault. Why were there no criminal charges brought? Why was there no REAL discipline of the players? They missed a game or two - big deal. So what is going to stop these players from doing it again? Is this in the best interest of the players? This to me is really sick. There is no accountability and it keeps on happening. How many felonies have been committed by UM football players since "the vagina" has been head coach? When will the UM administration stand up to this piece of sh*& and get rid of him?

I guess in addition to being head coach of the Montana football team, Hauck moonlights as the Missoula police department, district attorney, judge, and jury. Since when does a football coach get to be the one who hands out punishment for assaults? Only in Montana, where Grizz football and sheep are the only games in town. It's no wonder the Grizz players do whatever they want.

Hmm. Interesting post. Most Weber fans I encounter are good (even great) football fans and enjoy some good competition and even a little banter. This post caught my eye for a couple reasons...

1. I'm assuming when you say "lack of a national championship streak," you're referring to a national championship victory? Because in that case, I guess you're correct...UM hasn't won a national title since all the way back in 2001. So, great observation.

2. Let me see...the last time the Griz went on the road in the playoffs and lost...I guess that would be as recent as, well, 2004 if you want to count UM's loss to JMU in the National Championship. Prior to that, the Griz to lost to McNeese State on the road in 2002. Doesn't really seem like it happens every year to me. By the way, didn't Weber get beat on the road in the playoffs last year??

3. The Griz would finish in the middle of the CAA. Maybe. However, I do remember a game last fall in which the Griz went to the CAA champion (and then-ranked #1 in FCS) James Madison Dukes and beat them in a nationally televised game. So, perhaps "middle of the pack" is a bit of a stretch.

In any case, the Halloween game should be a good one. I hope a lot of you are coming up for it.

It's just a good thing for UM that it gets so many home playoff games, because they are 1-8 all time on the road in the playoffs, and 1-2 at neutral sites. That's a .111 winning percentage on the road, and a .166 overall winning percentage away from Missoula. Those numbers are hard to argue with. I'll give it to them, UM is great at home (22-6 for a .786 winning percentage in the playoffs), but it just appears to me that most years they blow through the Sky, get home field for most of the playoffs, and win games UNTIL THEY HAVE TO LEAVE MISSOULA. It's no wonder UM wants to get the national championship game contract. If that happens, maybe they will win the national championship more often than 10% of the time they make the playoffs (2 national championships in 19 playoff appearances, and 7 straight years without winning one). But until that happens, or until UM shows me otherwise, I'll just count on them making the playoffs and then eventually losing when they have to leave Missoula. And as far as the CAA goes, UMass, New Hampshire, Richmond, Villanova, William & Mary, and Delaware could all have an argument that they are as good or better than UM. And there's still James Madison, who is having a down year but is traditionally very good. You place UM in that conference and there is no way in hell they have anywhere near the success they have in the Sky. Anyway, good discussion, and I think Halloween will be the game of the year in the conference. And just one more thing, what is the general feeling in Missoula regarding Hauck? I know he wins, but I keep hearing how big of a jerk he is.

The CAA is complete crap. The Big Sky is champagne compared to that shiz conference. ISU would finish in the middle of the CAA!!

LOOOOOOOOL! ISU lost to a DII.

4 teams in the CAA beat FBS schools so basically the middle of the pack is better than just about every FCS conference.
