They were a big surprise of the season, along with Temple. They had a great bowl game victory over Bowling Green in a WAC-versus-MAC showdown. I hate to think after Boise State that Idaho could be another success story formulating from the state of famous potatoes.
They say Idaho has more millionaires per capita than any other state in the union. Boise State's success was probably largely due from a sizeable pool of supportive millionaires who not only provided funds but also helped the university strategize to bring about success, much as they did in realizing their own fortunes. Do you think their input was welcome? Except they do it now to realize an "Emotional Return-on-Investment" in order to raise their levels of utility higher.
If Idaho football is the next beneficiary of the Idaho Millionaires' Club, then we at PSU are lagging way far behind.
We played Troy State for the D-II championship. Look where they are now. Look how far Troy has come! And then look at our wheels continuing to spin in the mud of progress. Shameful!
Cowing to UO and OSU is no longer an option, rather our role now is to push them. Dismiss Oregon's false state "political order" nonsense for what it is. It is just an excuse for Oregonians to not make progress and lose ground to other state's university football programs. Oregon's defeat against Boise State was a huge, discomfitting embarrassment and showed BSU to be this year's kings of the NW. Chew on that one for a while. Then they go out and beat TCU of the Mountain West. Do you think the MWC can disqualify them much longer?
And, very likely, Idaho's similar improvement is what is next on that state's agenda. For the good of the state of Oregon, PSU's role has to be one of quick and solid improvement and then push Oregon and Oregon State to higher heights. We gotta get so good, we put Oregon and Oregon State into a fright, flight, fight mode. Hopefully, they will choose to climb higher.
