While it looks likely that Joel will become the Big Sky Conference's career leader in rebounds by season's end, I just did the math, and he has a real shot at breaking the single-season rebound mark as well.
Here are the Top 5:
1. Ed Wilson, Idaho State (1967-68): 420
2. Willie Sojourner, Weber State (1969-70): 411
3. Willie Sojourner, Weber State (1968-68): 392
4. Jack Gillespie, Montana State (1968-690: 383
5. Dan Sparks, Weber State (1967-68): 370
In a worst-case scenario that has us playing only one postseason game (losing the first Big Sky tourney game) where Joel holds his current average of 12.2 rebounds per game, he will finish with 390 rebounds this season. This also operates under the assumption that his rebounding average won't increase once Big Sky play begins, which it has in every one of his seasons. With only two or three more games, he'd have a very real shot at claiming an almost 50-year-old record. :notworthy:
