This used to be at the top of the hoops thread, but I'd like to keep a close watch on Joel's stats as we progress through the season.

After last night's game, he moved up on the all-time charts a bit. He now ranks 10th all-time in WSU history in boards, already passing Paul Marigney and Rico Washington through our first two games of the season. If he even remotely holds his pace and stays healthy, Joel should pass Bruce Collins for No. 3 all-time by the end of the year. Joel also passed Kirk Smith and tied Daviin Davis for fourth all-time in blocks with last night's 5-block effort (the fourth of his career). He only needs seven more to pass Darin Mahoney for third.

Sir Velo (the man formerly known as Catcat) is our champion statistician. He goes on mania's ever so often and currently Weber State Basketball isn't at the top of his Mania/obsessions chart (cycling is at the top of his list now I believe, don't worry it changes every few months depending on who is winning and losing, I think he is also a HUGE Giants fan too looooool). I'm sure after a couple of wins he will be back posting and acting like a total wankor.

No matter, cool stats Hawks. Keep it up.

You know that catcat is disconnected from the board when he doesn't censor/delete posts from the USU thread. I think every other year I can remember him messing with the Utah State threads. Heaven forbid someone say something bad about his wifes alma matter. I thought for sure he was going to ban Weberski for life for some of the comments he made about USU.

He told me that this video is what peaked his current interest in cycling. He was a little confused when he showed up to his first bicycle race stark naked and realized everyone else was clothed.

Currently....

PPG: 16
RPG: 12
BPG: 3.5

TOPG: 5?? :?
Except for the turnovers and the matador "D"...... Joel has had a great start to the year. Interested in watching how he handles true bigs this weekend. Redbirds have some huge bigs, I know Joel is strong, but is he big enough to compete. They have him by 25lbs.
We heard a lot about his skill development over the summer, this weekend would be a great time to show it!

I can totally see how this video would be the source or his cycling inspiration. Catcat used to be classy man smh...

Bolomboy has 17 TOs on the season. Senglin has 20.
That's a lot!
I'm not sure what the future holds, but the upper level of the BSC has gotten very competitive. We will not be in the top five of the conference unless we address the turnovers. I know the forum believes that Senglin doesn't have the help he had last year, but I think it's more than that! He seems more in a "get mine mindset" versus trying to involve his teammates. I think Rahe has to put him on a short leash with the turnovers. If he wants to be instant offense, maybe he's better coming off the bench, but it's killing the offense that our PG has a me first mentality. The charges are fun to watch! He just puts his head down and dives in! :wall:

UPDATE: Joel jumped up to No. 7 on WSU's all-time rebounding list last night (657), passing Dan Sparks. Next up is Royal Edwards. Joel needs 18 more to leapfrog him.

Joel also passed Daviin Davis during the Paradise Jam tourney for No. 4 on WSU's all-tim blocks list. He has 99 career blocks, and needs only one more to tie Darin Mahoney for No. 3. A distant second on the list is Kyle Tresnak with 125 blocks.

Glad to see Joel making a move up the list, but in my opinion, he's taken a step back this year. It might be due to playing out of position, but the turnovers and Swiss cheese defense is a concern.

I was worried about him leaving for the NBA, but I don't think he will have that option. He's had a rough start to the season. Numbers are great in some areas, but he's struggling at the 5. I'm being critical, but he's really had some games where you cringe when he touches the ball and hope that it's not another turnover.
Still lots of time in the season.

I agree. Although he had 12 boards last night, they all seem to be out of position when it comes to rebounds.

Joel is soft. He needs to toughen up. One thing Beckner did do was make our players tougher. We need a coach who knows how to work with bigs and get them tougher. Mook??

That would be sweet. Mook's been hanging around. I see him at the Wildcat Center all the time. God, I wish we had him healthy for another year or two. By the time he finished, he was just hitting his stride.

Mook was headed into the locker room about 20 min after the game ended to talk to Joel. Im assuming it was to talk being tough but who knows. Mook as a big mans coach makes sense. We need one and he is one of the hardest workers I have seen next to Dame. Plus he is probably the nicest guy I have ever met. :notworthy:
