There were some new things at Saturday nights game.

The dj running contests & things
video of Otis telling crowd to make some noise after intro video
halftime entertainment was new & entertaining

anybody know why the scoreboard hasn't been working in the first half the last 2 or 3 games?

Still missing Joker? Newsflash: the intro song still sucks.....

Agreed...now if he could get some marketing going, and get some more butts in the seats. No excuse that the Dee isn't full; especially the student sections, but that isn't his area of concern.

Hey man, I've honestly been impressed with the students section the last 2 or 3 games. Some are just sitting, but there were as many students there against Montana & NAU as I've ever seen.

Don't give them to much credit, then they will stop trying...It's like George Bluth, gotta tell them they suck so that they keep working hard.

First of all, the on-court DJ, Mook video, and halftime entertainment weren't coordinated by Bovee. It was coordinated by the head marketing guy. So, it sounds like they're marketing to me. I've personally seen a lot of marketing on campus, it's just no one cares. The SAA has over 300 members but how many show up? Students don't care here. It's too much of a commuter school. I'm not saying it can't work but it's gotta be hard to get the students to care...that's why they're giving out food and ice cream and some of the games. That's all MARKETING!

Welcome!!

Gotta agree to disagree here. Putting up signs is one thing (granted, it's something, better than other years, but not enough). To be truly successful, you've gotta get out among the people. Communicating it to the students in other ways, utilizing a mixture of unorthodox and traditional measures (signs, posters, etc). Tell the students on campus, make it a big deal. By just putting out one or two signs, or the schedule posters around campus, doesn't make it seem important. It's boring and uneventful. Yes, at Weber you have to work harder, but also, you can measure success so much easier. Don't allow yourself to use the "its a commuter campus" cruch. This is a challenge and you should get excited about it. This is why you went into the field you did. What better place to test your skills, orginiality, abilities, and creativity. You must make things seem important, that is how you attract students. Make it interactive and exciting. You can plan things, do things at the game, all you want. Unless you actually tell someone about the event and make it memorable they aren't going to remember or care.

Also the buck stops with Bovee. He is the AD. He is the one who grants permission or denys it. He hired you, not someone else. The boss is the one responsible for his employees actions. If the department is looking good or doing positive things, then it reflects upon him, if not, it reflects upon him.

The students do care. Our student sections has been bigger and louder then 95% of midmajor teams and I can tell you only a small portion ever get free food or icecream. Our attendnce is almost 6500 right now per game. I think that puts us in the top 70-80 in the nation out of almost 350 teams. People love our teams!!! There is always some that aren't happy but someone does deserve some credit for the support we get. I can't find one team in the country from a lower conference that out attends us. If anyone can find a team from a similar or lower conference with more fans, I would love to see it! We are actually doing incredible support wise right now!!! Im pretty sure Nevada has 3 looses right now and get less then 4,000 per game with a silent student section.

I dont understand how some can say marketing isnt doing anything. Our attendance is up from last year, they are getting new ways to involve the crowd, and they were able to swing deals for the students to help motivate them to come (free food, shirts, towels). There is a billboard washington with basketball on it with both men and women. I think now with the ppl they just brought in the wheels will start to turn and progress will be made in all sports. Yes Bovee has a say in most things but he is not the one coming up with all the ideas. He just puts his stamp of approval on it. I feel big things are in the works for weber, they just have to do it the right way.

And for extra promotions they should have enough funds....because there's always money in the Banana Stand!

Okay...I think we can all agree that things have gotten better. However, there is still a long way to go. The department can't get complacent. Yes, some good things have happened, but there are a number of other things that still need to happen, or can/should be happening, that will help our student section and crowd. I think Bovee is doing a solid job of leading the department. Marketing is better than it was. It is a win win. But there is still a lot of work left to do. I don't think it will ever end actually. We can all help. Let us be positive and excited. And be supportive; even if we think it is dumb. Lets support and bolster our programs, and the department, instead of tearing them down.
