Brett Hein Analysis of opener on ESPN700

Brett did a good job. I liked how he answered the, "Utah will most likely kill the Cats" question. With a (paraphrasing and adding in some of my own thoughts on his reply), well, this isn't the Jody Sears team that Utah blanked 70-7. This is a Jay Hill coached team that could have beaten Cal (probably should have if it wasn't for the TOs) and ended the season ranked #5 in the nation. Do I believe Weber will beat Utah? No...but is it possible, Sure. I do think Weber will play them tough. Yet, I also feel that Utah will be really good this year. Whitt will have his team ready to go; especially since he knows he is opening up against Jay.

However, I really liked the radio program. It wasn't so much about Utah, as it was about Weber. Really did a good job of focusing on the Cats and recognizing the success Weber has experienced lately. Also, I feel Brett did a good job of recognizing the areas of concern and pointing out how Coach Hill and his staff have addressed these shortcomings.

Like Brett, I feel that the offensive line will end up being the strength of the offense. A good line usually equals a dangerous running attack. We are definitely deep in the back field. Weber has the best full back in the league, perhaps FCS, and three highly experienced running backs. I know there is some concern at WR, but I feel we will be fine. My biggest concern on offense is at TE. Longangu is experienced, but after him we are very thin at that position. That has been our money maker the past three seasons.

On defense, the biggest area of concern is the secondary. If there is one position that Coach Hill knows how to teach, it is that one. Also, we are deep at Safety which can help compensate for the inexperience at corner. On the line, yes, it'll be hard to replace Mckay Murphy, but I feel a couple of guys will step up. Besides, I think our ends are extremely good and Sitake is back and he is going to be dangerous. I wouldn't be too shocked to see a lot of 3-4 this year, since our LBs are probably the best in FCS. Special teams and defense will be the strong points for the Cats. Offense will struggle and will probably be run heavy to start the season, but once the QB situation solidifies itself, Weber will become very good very quickly.

QB--- My money is either on...I have no idea. Jenks, Ricedorff, Miles, Constantine and Hymas are all good QBs. Heavens even the incoming freshman could really surprise us and compete for the starting role. I've had a chance to watch the QBs (granted without pads and in a chill passing situation only) and I feel for Coach. He is going to have a really hard time finding out who is the best one. We have options.
