Ok, Bobcat fan here, been over here a little because of Saturdays game and I see this phrase quite an bit

"BYU (aggie color theft)"

I can speculate on what its about, but will one of you guys enlighten me as to the story/history behind this phrase.

No that I have made the posting I see that it is automaticly added by the board, cool,

Still would like the story

Yes, I will be happy to share the history with you.
For over 100 years, USU has had the color of Navy Blue and White as their official colors.
byu has had the colors of Royal Blue and White as their official colors. Look at some of the older uniforms of byu to see this color was quite effeminate for a football team. Also, they probably were not selling much merchandise. So, about 8-9 years ago byu decided to change their colors to "the darkest shade of Royal Blue" which in reality is exactly the same color that USU has used for over 100 years. Thus, you can add theft and lying to you list of reasons to cheer against byu.

Just as Waldo said is correct. I believe the change took place when BYU joined the Mtn West in 1999 or there after.

What is interesting is in our state we only have 3 FBS schools. 2 of the 3 have the same colors. Even if you had all of our DI schools there are just 6. Of the 6 there are only 4 color schemes. BYU and SUU weren't very creative.

Utah: red
SUU: same red
USU: dark blue
BYU: same dark blue
WSU: purple
UVU: green/yellow

It is unknown why SUU chose red; SUU originally was called BAC - Branch Agricultural College. The BAC was an extension of the AC - currently known as Utah State University. So if someone was to copy USU, you would think it would be SUU and not BYU.

Just another reason to be proud of purple. Only us and UVU are unique.

Imagine how dumb it would be if MSU and UM had the same colors.

BYU sure had a lot of options to choose from when changing considering only green, purple, dark blue & red were used. They should have gone with brown or orange!

wearing Orange would only give us Wildcat fans another reason to hate them.

Yes, those were hideous colors. At least they didn't opt for blue and yellow!
