BYU officiating

HOLY MOFO!!!!

Okay, I've read on here many times about the way you describe officiating at byu games and never really believed it could be that bad.

Well, now I believe. All you need to know about the GRIZ/byu game: The 3 GRIZ posts all fouled out; five fouls each. Davies, the byu post?? Zero fouls. Not one. Frankly, I've never heard of such a thing. 15 fouls to ZERO!!!!

Congrats to Weber on a nice OOC win tonight!!

i wish i could say that game you saw wasnt the most typical of byu home games but it was. it is not a coincidence we are 10-8 at home vs byu and 0-18 at byu.

Yeah I watched the game last night and was constantly shaking my head, BYU was getting all sorts of love from the zebras last night it was pathetic.

Montana did play well despite the lopsided officiating.

The really sad part of it, things would have been much worse if the game were to be played at YBU. I turned the game on, saw who the refs were, and knew how the game was going to go.

Sorry Everett...UM totally got bent over last night by the Zebras. But then again, thats life playing on the road and worse, playing against BYU. Catcat pointed it out perfectly. Kinda weird that Weber is 0-18 in provo, but 10-8 in Ogden. Hopefully, Weber gets some good refs for the 15 unlike the ones officiating last night. YIKES!! Embarrassing.

I was impressed with Jamaar, Martin, and Desheilds. Too bad Hutch and Cherry aren't available. I think they would have made the game a lot closer. The dudes calling the game weren't bad and were pretty fair towards Montana and the Sky. They mentioned Weber a few times and were very gracious. VERY WEIRD for BYU-tv.

I know some of you guys have a problem with the officiating in the Spectrum, but you have to admit that wasn't a problem this year. It's never been as bad as what happened to Montana last night against BYU. IMO officiating has always been blatantly pro BYU on their own court, and obviously was last night in SLC, and refs should be checked for a garment line before being able to ref in Provo. It's likely we get the same treatment at the Marriott that they gave to Montana last night, so it's up to you to take it to BYU and that arrogant bunch when they come to Ogden. Good luck.

I have to agree, I didnt watch or listen to the WSU/USU game, but it seemed pretty even, problem was (well depending on who you are a fan of) was one team made them the other didnt, and that was basically the difference.

Montana got hosed last night, and as much as I dont usually like the officiating in the Spectrum, games on the road vs BYU are much, MUCH worse.

Agreed this year's WSU/USU game was not normal but I still have nightmare's of our game in Logan two years ago. BTW, I almost hate to add to a BYU reffing thread when I'm still stoked about the Dayton win (and USU surprised me at Santa Clara as well -- plus the Utes lost which made it a pretty good night :-)

I know that BYU hatred seems to unite WSU/USU fans, but watching Davies last night was eerily like watching the return of Tai Wesley (without the constant whining of course). The big drop step, the pump fakes, the makes and trips to the line when the ball doesn't go down. Both really good, quick inside players, both guys get unbelievable calls. The calls that went the Y's way last night really went only one players way, and that was Davies. Wesley always seemed to get the same kind of calls.

It does makes me worry about the Y at the Dee. It will be interesting to see how Rahe tries to defend them. Davies inside quickness could prove deadly for our bigs who are not quick at all. Bolomby could be a neutralizer, but he is so young I worry about him biting on those pump fakes. Foul trouble up front would sink us. We could use a little home court reffing ourselves. But we've cut our teeth with some tough road games and now we get to play at home for awhile. I hope the momentum we have started really gets us rolling!

Even though the score was not close, I came away impressed with Montana -- Tinkle can sure recruit big guys. They are deep, experienced and when Cherry comes back they will be really good.

YBU probably would have won that game with honest officiating. It certainly would have been a much more interesting game and may have been better for YBU in the long run. They have a good team. They don't need to cheat. A game like that is not going to help them when they play at St Marry's or Gonzaaga.

I've said it before, on this forum, this sort of thing will continue untill the NCAA takes the scheduling and hiring of officials away from the schools for OOC games, and away from the leagues for conf. games. Paychecks shouldn't come from the schools or the confrences, like they do now. The way it is now, if a ref wants to be hired by a school in the future, he darn well better do a good job for them now. YBU has a lot of Church money to play with. :twocents:
