Cal Golden Bears

WILDCAT

The California Golden Bears come into the game at 8-2 They have played 2 neutral site games and only 1 real road game, thier game vs Weber will be thier 8th home game, before playing thier ninth and 4th home game in a row vs UCSB (wouldnt that be nice).

What does everyone think about this game, I guess the question is can the Cats keep it close, games vs St. Mary's and BYU point to NO, but you never know, Cal could come in Cold :?

Keys to a Wildcat victory.

1. Rebounds, we need them, Cal is bigger than us, especially since we have to go with the small lineup. We need rebounds

2. Take your time offensively, take good shots (and make them), make good passes, limit turnovers.

3. Make your free's, cause we probably wont get many

4. Just play Wildcat ball, this Cal team isnt unbeatable, but it's going to take a perfect game to come out of one of my least favorite places in the country (Berkeley) with a WILDCAT W

GO WEBER STATE

They actually kept it close against St. Mary's for a while (up by 10 at one point) before falling apart just before the break. I think you hit it right on the head. If the Southern Utah game is any indication, their shot selection is starting to improve. I just hope WSU's bigs don't get bogged down with foul trouble early (classic home job) and the Wildcats are forced to jack up a lot of needless 3's. The game could get away from them in a hurry if that happens. Keep it close and who knows, maybe someone like Bamforth could heat up and give them the spark they need to pull off an upset.

Weber pulling off the upset doesn't seem impossible, yet it does seem somewhat improbable. Weber will need to do three things:

1. Stay out of foul trouble (I'm sure we will see a lot of phantom fouls anyway, this is the PAC-12), and win the rebounding battle.
2. Shoot the ball extremely well and have a lot of assists on the made baskets. Move the ball around and play in the offense. Don't rush things.
3. Play shut down defense on the perimeter. Make Cal beat us with their bigs. Make it ugly for them.

Anyone have any TV or streaming options for this game?

Checked on this game, looks like only online version is $7.95 thru Cal Bears website and cbs-sports website.

Just went and bought a section and they want a ticket for every warm body that passes thru the gate. The town is going to represent real big, It's going to be a great homecoming for him and Mook. I really hate that Mook won't be playing in this game. I know they were here for St. Mary's but Cal is a lot easier to get to because of the public transportation, a few of the high school teams are coming as well, so Weber will have a lot of fans in the stands!

Friends and family to watch Lillard on Friday

Tonight, the Oakland native expects 100 hometown supporters or more on hand as Weber State (6-2) faces Cal (8-2), a Pac-12 power just 10 minutes away from where he grew up. Tipoff is at 8:30 p.m. at Haas Pavilion.

Lillard's AAU team practiced down the street from the UC Berkeley campus, but he flew under Cal's radar during his prep career at Oakland High School and never received a phone call, let alone a scholarship offer, from the previous coaching staff there.

Lillard didn't blame them, he said, "because I wasn't the player I am now."

He just thought they were wrong.

"Maybe they didn't know how hard I worked. I think how hard I work allowed me to have the success I've had so far."

While Cal might regret missing out on Lillard now, he has no regrets about ending up at Weber State.

"I wasn't disappointed," Lillard said. "A lot of the guys in my class, me and Mook, we just appreciated the fact that we had a scholarship. A lot of people where we're from don't get to go to school, period. We just appreciated that we had scholarships and that kind of made the chip on our shoulders bigger, the fact that a school right in our backyard didn't think we were good enough, for whatever the reason might be."

I hate to say it but I don't think this game will be very close. Cal destroyed San Jose St. and WSU did not play well in their last road game. I hope I'm wrong on this but I see Cal by 20+

im pretty sure there was more than 100 at st mary's. but it will be cool to see a wsu section cheering. i looked at cal's box scores and it looks like most of their home games attendance has been between 6,000-7,800 and the place holds 12,000.

this should be the best team we see all year, they were picked to win the pac 12 in some preseason sites/magazines and 2nd in some others.

Yes, they will be the toughest team we will face this year. However, if we want to make noise at the NCAAs, we will need to find a way to compete at this level. Win or lose, I just want to see a competitive attitude from our guys. I don't want to see what we saw at YBU. I don't care if we get out rebounded, but I do want to see an effort by our bigs to block out. I want to see a little attitude out of our bigs. I think our guards match up well, but our depth lacks experience. I'd like to see some growth from our backup guards. Lastly, I'd like to see our coaching staff get a little more intensity out of our entire team. We have shown glimpses of these things at points during the preseason. We need to put it all together. :thumb: :thumb: :twocents:

It's hard to gauge this game by San Jose State. They are an up and down team. SJSU had an above-average night when they played WSU and a totally sub-par night when they played Cal. Weber seemed to have a bad case of nerves when they play BYU, evident by all the shots that went long off the back of the rim (trying too hard). If they relax tonight, it should be a good game. I won't go as far as saying that WSU will win tonight or that Cal will have another blowout night. Cal has played a pretty weak schedule that lends to the blowouts, when they played another ranked team (Mizzou), they were blown out. Rebounding will be key in this game, if Weber can win the rebound battle and limit second chance shots they should do okay. Also they MUST protect the ball, Gutierrez is pretty good at stealing the ball.
