Cal Poly vs Weber State playoff game

Congratulations on the Big Sky title, now it's time for the playoffs. Any thoughts on traveling back to SLO?

I think last year when Weber State came to SLO Cameron Higgins wasn't the starting QB. I think our only hope against him is to either, get to him before he has time to throw the ball, or keep him off the field with our offense.

Two of the top rated FCS offenses going head to head. It looks like this game is going to be a shootout!

You are correct, Higgins was not the starting QB. I think I can speak for everyone that we are little pissed that UM got a 4 seed and we are traveling to SLO to play, but it is our own fault for yesterdays blown game. I think we are all in for a great game.

GO CATS!

Check http://www.channelsurfing.net on the day of the game for live video. All the Poly home games were on it, but I don't know about playoffs.

Congratulations to the Mustangs as well! :)

Should be a great game! 8-)

i thought I heard coach mcbride say on channel 2 that it was a home game

ESPN screwed up, WSU found out an hour or so after the games were announced that they are traveling to play not hosting.

will there be a bus that goes to it

As of last night:

Hi Purple Pak!

The Wildcats are heading to Cal Poly for the first round of the playoff's. We are trying to put together a trip to support our team.

More details on Monday!

James Miner, President
Student Alumni / Purple Pak

Im not sure how likely this trip will be. How long 15 hrs? Over the break when school is out. Thanksgiving. Hopefully we will have more news about it today or I don't think it will happen.

There were direct flights from Salt Lake City until 2 months ago. If the bus doesn't happen, a leisurely option is to fly to Burbank and take the train. The train station is alongside the airport, but I don't know if you can buy train tickets at Burbank. You get to see lots of coastline, including rocket launch pads at Vandenberg AFB.

Poly's get together for the announcement had them thinking the game was in Utah. When they were on their way out the door, someone figured out they were hosting.

Thats awesome!!! Way to go NCAA!!

I really hope that Cal Poly is in the Sky someday. Cal Poly would be an excellent addition to the Sky. The only problem is convincing Cal Poly to leave the Big West, and join a far superior basketball conference (okay Big West and Big Sky are right by each other in RPI each season, but come on I've got a little Bias for the BSC). I'd love to be able to go to San Luis Obeispo (spelling?) but it doesn't look like it will happen. It would be a nice change from Utah, especially this weekend (its suppose to rain and snow and get really cold). For those who are going, SLO is a really nice place; you'll have a great time.

Cal Poly runs an offense that is fairly similar to NAU. With that being said, Cal Poly understands the concept of team ball far more than NAU. Weber will need to stack 8 in the box and hope that the CB's/DB's are able to handle the Receivers. Weber's front four need to be keeped refreshed and energized for the Cats to have a chance. The sideline needs to be ready to call out where the ball is to help the defensive unit. I think both offenses balance each other out. Defense...Well, both have seen success and both have at time been soft. I think Weber's defense is better, but then agains Cal Poly is pretty dang good. I was really impressed with their game against Wisconsin. Losing by one assured them the home playoff game.

Its really unfortunate that these two teams have to face off against each other this soon. Teams of this magnitude shouldn't be playing each other till, at the earliest, the 2nd round. Weber, Poly, and UM all should have home games... This is complete crap that Weber has to go on the road while Richmond, JMU, and App all have home games... They are all within a couple hours of each other... Total BS!

I agree with you, Tal. Whoever loses this game will have a valid reason for being angry. They are both too good to be playing eachother in the first round. But really, it all could have been avoided if Cam didn't pull a Max Hall on Saturday.

Mustang fan here...

Can't agree more. This regional playoff thing needs to be re-evaluated. When you look at the teams that are in the West, you have Weber, Montana, and Poly, each one a very quality team that all could've been seeded. So we are left to duke it out and brutalize each other on the way to the playoffs while the "East" coast teams generally have an easier go. The Patriot League needs to lose their autobid in my opinion and it should go another league...I'd like to say the GWFC but with so few teams and the thought that the GWFC is a revolving door that won't help.

Coach Ellerson made a comment about the intent of the seeding not being accomplished when you have two of the FCS' best teams knocking themselves out early and you don't get the two best teams to the Championship. Either way whoever makes it out of our bracket will be battle tested and ready to take on the others.

Really impressed by your RB and QB obviously...but your QB really concerns me...your strength is lining up perfectly against our weakness...pass defense. Our CBs and safety's do a decent job and our pass rush is very strong but Poly has soft spots on the field and the CBs do better in man coverage than zone I think.

Your program should get more recognition but this was a big jump for you this year, your HC and QB make all the difference, sorry to hear about the cancelled bus ride, this is the playoffs for goodness sakes...even I know that you will need to some purple in the stands to honor your programs play this year!

NCAA was only able to dump regionalization for D-I basketball about 4 years ago. It's going to be a long time before they'll be able to for FCS, if ever. I'd be nice they could increase the number of seeds to 6 or 8 when they expand to 20 teams.
