I see Higgins is leading the nation in passing yards per game - 2,100+

He is #2 in the nation for passing efficiency.

I also believe he is leading the nation with 23 TD's...23 TD's to 5 INT's is also very impressive.

A. Do people know about him?
B. Can you be a Walter Payton candidate as a sophomore? (his numbers are schooling all of the quarterbacks on the list)
C. He is leading one of the top offenses in FCS, maybe they don't think 7 games is enough? I don't think anyone knows he had 303 yds passing @ Utah.

I don't believe there is a class restriction on the winner of the Walter Payton award. It is just like the Heisman, and it is unusual for a Sophomore to be considered.

Bomar, Higgins and Sinisi named to Payton watch list
Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - Sam Houston State quarterback Rhett Bomar, Weber State quarterback Cameron Higgins and Monmouth running back David Sinisi have been named to the Walter Payton Award watch list, the Sports Network announced on Thursday.

That trio joins 13 other players, all holdovers from the original list announced in August, on the revised list. T he Payton Award watch list will undergo one further revision in November, and the final ballot will be announced at the end of the regular season.

The winner of the 22nd Walter Payton Award, symbolic of the top player in the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) will be announced at the annual Sports Network Awards banquet on Dec. 18 in Chattanooga, TN. at the Marriott Hotel. The Eddie Robinson Award, which goes to the top coach in FCS, and the Buck Buchanan Award, which is given to the top FCS defensive player, will also be awarded the night before the NCAA Division I football championship game.

Higgins, the 6-2, 195-pound passer from Hawai'i Kai, HI, earned national attention when he led the Wildcats to a record-breaking 73-68 victory over Portland State. Higgins completed 22-of-36 passes for 334 yards and four TDs and rushed nine times for 106 yards and three more scores to finish with 440 yards of total offense. He passed for a season-high 432 yards a week later in a 52-37 win over Idaho State, had a career-high five TD passes against Dixie State, and has thrown for four touchdowns in three other wins.

Higgins has thrown for 2,121 yards and an FCS-best 23 touchdowns, with a 68% completion rate and just five interceptions. He has 300 or more yards passing in four of the past five games and has led the Wildcats to a 5-2 record and the No. 18 ranking in FCS, with the only losses coming to Hawaii and Utah. Higgins ranks first in total passing yards, second in passing efficiency, fifth in passing yards per game (303), eighth in total offense and 18th in completions per game (21.9).

From Jasen Asay's article before the UNC WSU game:

4WSU NOTES: With 40 TD passes, Higgins needs just eight more TD passes to move past Jeff Carlson for second all-time at WSU, but is still a ways from the 87 thrown by Jamie Martin. ... Speaking of Martin, Jamie played in 41 career games, starting in 36 straight. In his first 19 games (8 as a freshman, 11 as a sophomore), Martin threw for 4,875 yards (256.57 ypg). Higgins is already at 4,097 in 18 games. Martin threw 41 touchdown passes in his first two seasons and obviously Higgins, with 40, looks to break that mark.

Smith is now averaging 92.4 yards per game and continues to lead the Big Sky. Smith is bidding to become just the second player in the league's 46-year history to lead the league in rushing three straight years. Idaho's Sherriden May accomplished the feat in 1992, 93 and 94.

Weber State holds a 2-0 advantage in the brief series. WSU and NC never played each other until the Bears joined the Big Sky Conference on July 1, 2006. ... The Bears picked up just their second win in three seasons in Big Sky play with last Saturday's 29-9 home field win over Idaho State

After the ISU game - Nov 8 with one game to go...

Cam has passed this season for 3,496 yards and 33 touchdowns. Those yards are the third most in an 11-game season at Weber State. Jamie Martin threw for 4,125 yards in 1991 and 3,700 yards in 1990. Martin has the 11-game record for Most Touchdown Passes in a season with 35. Higgins has 33. ... In 22 career games, Higgins has now thrown for 5,455 yards and 50 touchdowns. He is now fourth on the WSU career passing charts behind Jamie Martin (12,207); Jeff Carlson (6,147) and Tim Bernal (5,619). Higgins is also second in career Touchdown Passes with 50. Martin holds the school record with 87.

Higgins did not make the final cut for the Walter Payton Award. from sportsnetwork:

"Wide receiver Ramses Barden of Cal Poly finished fourth in the voting, with Central Arkansas quarterback Nathan Brown fifth and Weber State quarterback Cameron Higgins sixth. San Diego wide receiver John Matthews was seventh, Liberty running back Rashad Jennings placed eighth, Holy Cross quarterback Dominic Randolph was ninth and running back/returnman Larry Warner of Southern Illinois placed 10th."

Next year... this year how about Championship game MVP.

And Toone had better numbers than Barden of CP, why wasn't he considered? Guess it makes the other teams look bad if we had Cam, Tim, and Trevyn all on the list.

Not that Cam needs any motivation but it adds fuel to the fire. I expect him to come out and have a tremendous game.
