Can anyone explain Franklin Session to me?

I am not familiar with him, but while looking up some stuff on Weber State on the ESPN page...this stood out to me:
http://espn.go.com/college-sports/basketball/recruiting/player/_/id/46122" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Was he really listed as a CENTER coming out of HS? Why did he not end up coming to Weber right away? And how come he only ended up playing for 1 year?

I'm actually quite intrigued, 11 points and 6 rebounds from a guy 6'2 is pretty impressive.

Franklin is not a center. He is a 2/3 wing player. He is extreamly athletic and is an oustanding rebounder. If he was a better team mate, a better student, and a better shooter, he probably would have played at less than 4 schools in 4 years. Does that tell you everything you need to know. :?

Yes thank you. I assumed he was a "cancer" of sorts considering he moved around so much

ha ha this is kinda funny and totally understandable it would seem confusing and why he was only at wsu for one yr. in junior college he sounded like a big despite being about 6 ft. he was a mad rebounder. unfortunately like oldrunner said he had some issues.

he was a great player for us, was new comer of the year in the big sky and then trasnferred to a DII the next season. i think CSU LA. no one really missed him when he was gone. we were surprised to see him go til we started hearing rumors but the main reason he wasn't highly missed was because of the big sky championship game in 2010 where we had the melt down and lost at home despite our 20 pt half time lead. session shot 5-12 free throws and had his hands on the ball in the final minutes of a close game that had wsu fans steaming as they left the arena. he was a very good player but he was a horrible free throw shooter.

JC shooting guard
Franklin Session, 6'2", 160 lb guard from Los Angeles, CA, just finished up his sophomore season at Saddleback (JC) College in Mission Viejo, California. As a soph, Session's team finished the season 29-8 and made it to the California junior college championship game which they lost 69-60 to Riverside. Session had 14 points, 16 rebounds, 3 blocks and 3 assists.

On the season, Session averaged 14.27 ppg, 10.3 rpg, 2.54 apg, 1.76 spg, 1.19 bpg, .44 FG% and .35 3P%. At just 6'2" he was a rebounding beast with 10 or more rebounds in 21 of the 29 games even 14 or more in 7 games.

Session graduated from Jordan High School in 2007, he played his freshman year at Irvine Valley College before transferring to Saddleback.

Update: Signs with Weber State

If the Montana meltdown doesn't happen, Rahe probably doesn't kick him off the team, despite his issues.
He did opening Tipoffs the 2nd half of the season, which was crazy because he was 6.2". We could have used him with Lillard going down last year. I'll never forget him trying to bank in a free throw in the Montana game after missing 4 in a row. Rahe immediately benched him, and chewed his A$$. He didn't like Arby's roast beef sandwiches either, and made it well known he don't eat that shid..

oldrunner i didnt even notice. YIKES

irvine valley college
saddleback college
weber state
cal st la

saddleback is also a jc where 3-4 really good aggies had come from so i believe we were under the impression rahe brought them in. i know david pack was one of them i cant remember the others maybe chaz spicer?

even thinking about that game makes me sick. i forgot about his tip offs hahaha. he really could jump. and he is in the top 3 dunkers at wsu in the last 10 yrs with patten and davis.

remember that slow mo 360 dunk he had? might be the best dunk ive seen at the dee. it was a on facebook not sure if its still around.

every game was a highlight reel. definately the biggest wasted of DI talent i have seen.

Everybody thinks that the Montana game was what pushed it over the top. However, I believe that decision was made in January and not in March. Everyone see's the games and and form opinions accordingly. There is so much more that goes into those kind of things. Randy would not make that kind of move based on one game, or for that matter, even several games. Franklin is a likeable kid and I think that everyone just wanted him to find a place where he fit better. He is, surely, fun to watch. Winning games and being fun to watch does not always go hand in hand. Although,... hmmmmm... those Globe Trotters don'r lose very often. :stir:

Basketball at Weber State and life in Ogden, have changed Franklin Session's life

no doubt it was a culmination of many things, however he continued to start and log more minutes than anybody including #1 the ENTIRE season and was benched for the Cincinatti game directly after the Montana BSC Championship game.

It sure would have been nice to have had him around last year. I tend to agree with Ski on this. Yes, there were problems with Session before the UM game, but I think it was his actions after the Championship game that totally buried him. You don't play a guy 30+ mins a game if you don't plan on him returning to the team.

And yes, Session was a center in high school. Crazy...

I think he played a lot of minutes because we had nobody else and he could play either wing spot. Also, do you really think he would have beat out Bamforth, Richardson, or Bullinger for playing time.

I think if he straightened out his attitude, he beats out all three. Sometimes I really miss that guy's freakish athleticism and I wish WSU could find another like him. Every now and again I fantasize about what last year's team would have been like if Lillard didn't break his foot and Session returned to the team after Randy straightened him out in the offseason. But I guess if Randy couldn't do it, no one can.

Wow!!!

I can't let that go by.

The only thing that got him playing time was his rebounding. You see one or two dunks and think he is a great ploayer, probably going to be the next Michael Jordan. What I am seeing is the 10 wild a$$ed shots for every good one, the three turnovers for every assist, the five times out of six that he is lost on defense, and the three times out of five that he doesn't know what the play is, or doesn't care. If he was on the team this year, he wouldn't beat any of our freshmen out, let alone any of the regulars.

All this and he still garnered more PT by Rahe than anybody on the team?

He led the team in rebounding @ 6'2" because he hustled his A$$ off nonStop, the dude was the energizer bunny.

No doubt the guy had a lot of raw talent, but that was simply the problem - he was too raw. For example, very poor free throw shooting and very poor outside shooting. He could rebound and dunk and really hustle. He didn't refine his skills to be a better shooter (needed to spend about 10,000 hours just shooting and he would have been a great shooter). We know that to be world class at something, you need to spend about 10,000 hours doing it and I doubt Franklin spent that amount of time in the gym just shooting.

Thought people may be curious to see how he did at his new school, Cal State University--Los Angeles, so I went to their website & checked. Here is some of what I found. He had a similar year to what he had here except that there he was the man.
Scoring.....456 .. Avg: 16.5...1st on team
Rebounds.....213 .. Avg: 7.6...2nd on team
Offensive rebounds.....77 1st on team .. Avg: 2.8...2nd on team (One guy had 55 in 19 games for a 2.9avg)
Defensive rebounds.....136 .. Avg: 4.9...2nd on team
Fouls.....81 .. Avg: 2.9...1st on team (only one DQ though) #2 guy had 64 & 4Dqs.
Minutes.....988 .. Avg: 35.4...2nd on team
Assists.....65 .. Avg: 2.3...1st on team
Turnovers.....69 .. Avg: 2.5...1st on team
Blocked Shots.....12 .. Avg: 0.4...T/3rd on team
Steals.....71 .. Avg: 2.5...1st on team
FG attempts.....388 .. Avg: 13.9...1st on team
FG Made.....165 .. Avg: 5.9...1st on team
FG Percentage......425: 5th on team (6th if you count #1 -- 1 for 1)
3pt FG attempts.....123 .. Avg: 4.4...2nd on team
3pt FG made.....36 .. Avg: 1.3...2nd on team
3pt FG Percentage......293: 3rd on team (4th if you count #1 -- 3 for 5)
FT attempts.....191.. Avg: 6.8...1st on team
FT made.....90 .. Avg: 3.2...1st on team (#1 guy made 4 fewer but attempted 82fewer.)
FT Percentage......471: 8th on team
Games 28 -- Games started 28 ..... Only one other player started all 28 games.

As you can see he had a similar stat line there to what he had at Weber (although he had a lot more 1st on teams at CSU-LA.)
Interestingly enough though. At CSU-LA he was the second leading rebounder (#1 guy avg 8.3) whereas at Weber he was #1.

Was Datronics 2nd team All Western Region (Davion Berry was 1st team.) Was All Conference First Team. They won their first conference tournament game ever last year.

Teams overall record: 15-13. Conference record: 10-12.
