We always complain how attendance is terrible at Weber state sporting events, but lately I realised that what we got compared to others is very, very, very good.

NAU is hot right now, they are 8-4 and undefeated at home, they hosted Mountain West team Air Force and played in front of 447 fans, 447 FANS. Granted they are playing in a gym with a max capacity of just a little over 900, but you wouldnt think getting 900 would be hard for a team that is 8-4.

Northern Colorado and Louisiana Monroe played in front of 775.

Montana and Cal St Fullerton played in front of 722.

Idaho played one of thier oldest rivals and former Big Sky foe Montana in front of 922 fans.

UC Irvine played Montana State in front of 379 fans

We had almost 5,000 against an NAIA, everyone listed above is Division 1.

It could be so much worse.

Thanks for realizing that you guys - being the WSU hoops program and fanbase - have something good going. I hope to one day catch a game there at Dee. Had fun talking to the WSU fan (guy from Seattle if I remember correctly?) I met @ The Rose Garden for the Big Sky Tourney two years ago and have always felt that your fanbase gives the best support in the Big Sky.

There were a few legitimate reasons for NAU's limited support last night with a nasty blizzard in progress, students gone for the holidays and holiday travel/plans in full swing for a lot of folks. I was in attendance last night. This years's NAU team is playing good ball. If this effort carries over to conference play they will challenge for the league title.

But....there's no legit excuse for crappy attendance the rest of the time on most occasions. Sports fans exist in Flagstaff. The town goes nuts during Cardinals training camp. No shortage of Phoenix Suns, U of A bball and ASU gear seen around town and on campus but maybe that's the root of the problem. Too many other shiny objects catching Joe Public's gaze to waste any time on insignificant ol' NAU. I speak from experience with about 95% of my NAU friends when I lived there who were too lazy to drive 10 minutes and spenb between zero and $10-ish to see quality live college basketball. The Suns/U of A game in a bar always won out.

NAU has some dedicated, hardcore basketball fans in town who are alums/employees but the interest just never seems to carry over into the community or a sizeable student body sector. For pete's sake, I've never met a minority group/small sector of society as crazy about basketball as the Navajo and Hopi reservations but the interest is never there either. Ugh... I give myself a headache everytime I contemplate this topic....I'm just glad you appreciate what you have, Wildcat.

MT Jack I have heard rumors that NAU has recieved funds from the State board of regents to build them a brand new arena. Is this true?

It baffles me to no end when NAU throws out all these great talented football and basketball teams into the fray and no one comes out and supports them. We also know how it feels to have to compete with schools much larger for fans, it down right sucks. if BYU, Utah, Utah State or the Jazz are playing, Weber's attendance suffers.

Im quite sure NAU will be in the tight fight for the Big Sky crown, In my opinion they look to probably be the best all around team right now. Do you know if NAU wins the Sky where they will host it? Will the Skydome's upgrades be done by then?

Dont be a stranger MT Jack I always enjoy talking sports with ya

Our forum is the only one where basketball is first. Weber is a basketball school. We love our Wildcats!! I just more people would get involved. It was definitely nice seeing the Dee practically full against BYU. I heard a number of fans say they can't wait to come back and watch the Cats again. Maybe Weber won over some BYU0-Ogden/Weber fans.

You've got to give Bovee credit. He is definitely making sure the facilities are getting money poured into them. Stewart is going to be pretty sweet next fall.

Here's the link re: the renovation to NAU's fieldhouse to serve as the new basketball arena.

http://www.azdailysun.com/news/local/education/article_a2ef2363-9d11-5523-baba-8fcc5b3c7605.html

Not a whole lot of details as of yet but the initial steps are moving forward.

Will stop back later this week to lament the Montana roadtrip and look forward to next week's game vs. ISU and the Wildcats.

Sweeeeet thats great to hear.

Once again I hate to revive a long gone thread, but check these numbers out.

In our game vs Northern New Mexico we had almost 5,000 fans (4,882)

The Montana Griz hosted old Big SKy rival Idaho last night and played in front of 2,684 fans.

You can definetely tell the difference with the Mentality, Im sure right now, most Montana fans arent even thinking about thier hoops team, whereas us Weber fans have already forgotten our football team and are concentrating only on hoops.
