The winners will be announced at the 2011 Gibson’s Finest CFL Player Awards show during Grey Cup week on Thursday, November 24 at the Vancouver Convention Centre in Vancouver, British Columbia. Below are the two nominees. Edmonton was beaten by the BC Lions yesterday so they won't be in the Grey Cup. JC had five tackles. Our 2010 Buchanan Award winner missed two games with a bad ankle, that may cost him the Rookie of the Year award, we will see Thursday. Regardless he had a great first year as a professional football player. I still say he will play in the NFL but if he has a long CFL career that's good too. It will help him in his future coaching career as he will be a great coach when he's done with pro ball.

JC Sherritt

Sherritt has already won CFL player of the week twice.

For the second time this season, Edmonton linebacker J.C. Sherritt has earned top defensive honours. Sherritt registered a game-high 10 tackles in the Esks' 23-22 loss to the Blue Bombers.

The 2011 Most Outstanding Rookie nominee currently leads the league in tackles with 41.

The Edmonton Eskimos middle linebacker, who was the defensive player of the month for July, earned his second weekly award despite coming off of what he considers a weak performance.

“Really this week more than anything, it was really a team award,” said Sherritt, who leads the CFL with 48 tackles in six games.

While a game-high seven of those came in last Friday’s 28-20 win over the Saskatchewan Roughriders, not to mention his first CFL interception, Sherritt said he felt he didn’t play well.

“I don’t know how I won it, but I’m happy I did,” he said, singling out teammates Weldon Brown and T.J. Hill for having his back on some missed tackles.

But that’s still better than if he played the game of his life and it ended in a loss.

“Winning fixes everything,” he said. “After the game, I’m frustrated, with a smile on my face.”

He is one of the top 2 or 3 LBs in Canada right now.If he keeps this up he might get some NFL looks. He is a guy who isnt big but just is always around the ball.Great inctincts. The guy a coach will fall in love with type.
