Championship Game - eags vs Griz

Well, it's the moment of truth. The Griz clobbered Weber St. tonight and the eags pretty much had their way with Southern Utah. I have been saying most of the year that Southern Utah was going to make some noise in the tourney and they did. We beat a very good team tonight.

I really don't know what to expect in this game. I could see it going either way. Montana has been the best team in the league all year and they are going to be very tough to beat. Their perimeter play is outstanding. I think our game plan needs to be to take away the 3-pointer and force them to go inside. If we leave their 3-point shooters open we deserve to lose. Our coaches better know that by now. Our role players will also need to show up in a big way.

go eags!

Man....that was something! SUU was hot going in but EWU just didn't let them get in flow that first half then finished it off. EWU playing good ball and I'm taking them and the +6.5 pts they're getting in Vegas.

You play all season to get to this game; win and in. It’s been a weird year with all the injuries and perpetual line-up changes, but they’ve given themselves a chance.

It is crazy to think about what we've been able to accomplish this year without Davison and Beo in the lineup. Give the Griz some credit too. They're down a great player as well. The eags have a shot tonight but it will require having ice-water in our veins down the stretch. It's one thing to keep it close or play with the lead with no pressure----it's another thing to play with poise in a close game with 2 minutes remaining and a Big Dance trip on the line. Let's see if this eags team can make plays when they need them the most.

I agree with you Rafter, can't allow them to get comfortable shooting from the perimeter. My layman thoughts;

This game is going to be a battle but I’m confident the EAGS will win and go to the Dance. The EAGS are playing their best “team” ball of the season and are a resilient bunch. Montana is a good defensive team but only average on offense and is very inconsistent. Montana can’t go deep into the bench like Eastern so the EAGS need to be aggressive on offense and force Montana to work hard defensively. Get Montana into foul trouble.

DEFENSE
Don’t allow Rorie that 15-18 foot jumper at the top of the key. Force their guards to either shoot contested threes or drive to the hoop. The EAGS have two long athletic freshmen guards (Jackson and Fadal) that can defend well. Use them when possible to give our guards quick rests and wear down their guards. Don’t let them get comfortable like Weber did.

Pridgett is their only real offense in the paint. Make him work for every inch in the paint. He will get some points but make him work for every interior shot. Don’t be afraid to foul him as he is only 56% at the line.

OFFENSE
Montana can’t stop the EAGS in the paint, but their guards are good defenders. They are overmatched by our bigs, so it is imperative that our point guards and shooting guards handle their defensive pressure and get the ball inside. If our guards play well, there is no way they can stop us in the paint. Our bigs need to attack Pridgett and force him to defend. Get him in foul trouble. Make them collapse on our bigs and open up the inside-out game and our shooters will nail threes. Cody Benzel is over his shooting slump. I think he is going to hit many threes tonight.

GO EAGS!

Yes. The eags fell short but proved they are a good team. Congrats to the Griz and good luck against Michigan. I will be rooting for Montana. Make the Big Sky proud....and I think you might.

Rafter, you are a kind person. Michigan will not overlook UM like last year. 20 point lead at half.

Thanks Rafter. A very tough draw and a might large ask without Akoh. But I don't expect a blowout. One thing about a Travis GRIZ team, they'll always defend. Get a few 3s to drop and you never know.

Good game Griz, you made shots down the stretch and showed why you were the best team in the league. Give Michigan hell.
