Cheer squad performance

It seemed really strange to me that the cheer squad was throwing t-shirts when the offense was running plays. It was 1st and 10 on two different occasions that they started throwing and completely distracted the fans from the game. Is that weird or just me being overly critical?

I agree, it was really annoying having fans stand up in front of me to try to catch a lousy t shirt while I was trying to watch the game. I know that the sponsors money is important to the program, but their promotions shouldn't be allowed to interfere with fans ability to watch the game without distractions.

Sponsor money and promotions are great. It enhances the game day experience for many people. My complaint is with whoever is managing the cheer squad. I don't think they have a clue about what is going on on the field.

Clawman,

I don't think this can be put on the cheer squad. If you will recall the t shirt toss was announced over the PA system. I would presume that since the folks in the booth made the announcement they would be the ones responsible for it's poor timing. The cheer squad was simply complying with the announcers instructions.

I agree that sponsor's the money is important to the program and some of their promotions are fun. However, I don't want the aforementioned promotions to disrupt the game day experience. After all we are there for the game, that's why it's called game day. I'm a proud EWU alum and supporter who wants a balance between the traditional game day experience and the realities of today's necessity for corporate sponsorship.

If you want to see an example of over-the-top sponsor promotions all you need to do is visit a GU men's basketball game at the McCarthey Center. I've had GU season tickets for years and I can tell you that over the past several season's the commercialization of the men's bb games has become so bad that I more often than not give my tickets away rather than sit through what amounts to 40 minutes of basketball and what seems like 2 hours of commercials.

The good news is that when GU and EWU have home games on the same night my decision is easy I can go to GU games and listen to nonstop commercials or I can go out to Reese Court and watch Eagle basketball. Go Eags. :thumb:
